How Do You Bridge 2 PC2002 Amps?

Register to hide this ad
Buy 2 1/4" male TS to RCA female adapters, plug into the unbalanced 1/4" inputs of the PC2002's (left channels only), set the input selector switch to unbal, connect preamp outputs to the now RCA inputs.

Be prepared for a massive sonic assault of clean pure sound unlike anything you have heard before.

I think I got it. I am already running 1 PC2002 with the 2 1/4" male TS to RCA female adapters. So I move the right ch. adaptor the the other left connection. Switch to unbalanced.

In this way is one amp powering the left ch. & the other the right ch. or are they combined?

Yes.

In the way you described, the right way, one amp powers left, one amp powers right. Control the gain on each of them using the left gain control.

To be clear.

Turn everything off. Set both the attenuators on both PC2002 to minimum. Set the Stereo/Bridge switch on both PC2002 to BRIDGE.

You're going to plug the pre-amp output LEFT channel into the Left of one amp.

Plug the pre-amp output RIGHT channel into the left of the 2nd amp.

Flame on.

Now adjust the left attenuator on each amp to a suitable level that won't allow max volume on the pre-amp to exceed the amp or speaker capability.

Thank You for the Concise Instructions Sir!!

You too David :D :thmbsp:

Well? How do they sound? What speakers? :scratch2:

I saw your reply earlier today. I just won the amp on ebay a couple of minutes ago!!! I'm so excited!! :music:

It was available locally so I will be able to pick it up tomorrow afternoon after work (super bonus)!! My kind of Christmas Present!! Amps under the tree!!
I will be running them bridged with my JBL 250ti's. 700 watts of juice! Can't wait!!

Thanks, Bob

Your enthusiasm is justified IMHO!

250ti's, very cool. They may have the same reason for needing high power that the Infinity 9's have, thin cabinets with multiple drivers. (Relatively) smaller volume means lower efficiency and multiple drivers means the xovers use more heat which doesn't get to move air.

Nice reason to get a powerful amp (or two!). :thmbsp:

Let me know if yours get hotter on the right side. Might be normal, mine does.

The PC2002 I am using now has been recapped and gone over by Yammie Guru Avionic. The condition of the new one is unknown except it powers up. It comes with a 3 day return if I'm not pleased with it. It should be ok though. I will have this one recapped as well. I'll have to check to see if the right side gets hotter. I was running a pair of JBL L150A's with the Yamaha and the clipping lights started flickering when cranked one Saturday night. They never did that with the 250ti's.

Gonna be a fun weekend! Thanks, Bob

Check the dc offset on that amp's speaker outputs before you connect it to anything. If you have a DMM, it's easy enough to adjust if out of spec, assuming there are no other issues.

I picked up the unit. Cosmetically it is in better shape than I thought after cleaning. When the amp is turned on it snaps out of protection only 3 seconds or so like my other one. I have had it running (not connected to anything) for an hour now and it runs cool the the touch.

I test my tube amp but never tested an SS amp.
I am trying to check the DC offset and I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. I have the meter set at DCV 200m and I have the black (common?) and the red to the positve. The left channel is showing about 9.0 on the meter and the right 3.5. Is this the correct way to test it?

Thanks, Bob

That looks pretty good. Right channel offset is just inside spec. If it's cool , the idle current is probably good enough as well.

The full procedure is in the attached image should you wish to undertake.

So I'm actually doing it right? lol

I think I'll leave it for now. I'd probably make it worse. :sigh:

Tomorrow I'll connect a preamp & speakers to this amp by itself and see how she runs. If all is good I'll try bridging on Saturday, Christmas day.

I appreciate your help Russ! Thank You

and have a great Christmas!!! :thmbsp:

I agree...since you have a three-day policy I wouldn't be turning any screws until/unless you decide for sure to keep it.

True. I had it running for 3 hours by itself since I got her home, so things are looking good.
I'll give her the big test tomorrow at the Cactus Bob's Christmas Extravaganza :D: :music:

Read through the posts, generally looks right...just that the amp channels are labeled "A" and "B" yes?

So, to recap bridging....

All power off, of course

On both amps...
1. Set Mode switch to "Mono"
2. Set input selector switch for Channel A to "Unbalanced"
3. Set Channel B input attenuator fully counterclockwise
4. Set Channel A input attenuator to about 10 (~1/2 way up) for starters

On amp that will be used for right channel...
5. Use the RCA to 1/4" mono (TS) adapter to connect right preamp out to either of the unbalanced Channel A inputs
6. Connect the amplifier Channel A (+) speaker terminal to the right speaker (+) terminal
7. Connect the amplifier Channel B (+) speaker terminal to the right speaker (-) terminal

On the amp that will be used for left channel...
8. Use the RCA to 1/4" mono (TS) adapter to connect left preamp out to either of the unbalanced Channel A inputs
9. Connect the amplifier Channel A (+) speaker terminal to the left speaker (+) terminal
10. Connect the amplifier Channel B (+) speaker terminal to the left speaker (-) terminal

Power on....and enjoy.
