Sanyo Turntable TP-825D

just bought one off Ebay for $120 total...

Looks like a very fine Sanyo unit, more of their top of the tier series..Saw some input on the internet about it before pulling the trigger. For the condition, $120 seems like a good price. Wanted a "new" table that was well-built for a decent price.

The Seller provided a "video" on the listing to watch it in action. It seemed in excellent working condition- arm lowers slowly, full auto return looked smooth, has buttons for all of the auto features on this DD turntable...

Any thoughts??

Most likely CEC/Chuo Denki made. Excellent turntable. Hope it arrives well packed and intact. One of the better Sanyos.

I think it must be C.E.C. as well. Given that, its features and apparent vintage, it's probably quite similar to a Marantz 6300 in quality and performance. Not a bad thing by any means! You did very well!

For the moment, let's all assume that it was well packed and is going to arrive in perfect shape. They often do and there's no sense fretting or speculating about it now.

It appears to have holes to hold two extra headshells with cartridges for easy cartridge comparisons.

My concern was the same with shipping...already asked after buying to assure good packing. Luckily, he has sold and shipped over 30 turntables so far and no issues...

Can't freakin wait to get it and dial in a grado gold cartridge on it.

Are you kidding? The 6300's are selling for more than $400 on ebay. If this is that good a score, i may never need another table! Thanks for the feedback...

When it arrives, it will be run through my prized posession AMT1 pair of ESS speakers that i bought locally on craigslist for $400 in mint condition a few months ago. The guy was just in need of holiday cash....the soundcraftsmen amp/preamp should have the music flow nicely!

First play will be AC/DC highway to hell album...hello neighbors..

Again, you guys got me stoked!!

Spinning mine now

Yeah I was watching that listing. They come up fairly infrequently on the 'bay. I run one in my office rig (spinning Tom Petty Pack up the Plantation as I type). Bet you're really going to like the table! Keep us posted

I should get it in the mail by this Friday...

Did you swap out the RCA cable on yours? If the cable is decent, i would rather just add new gold RCA connectors in place of the white/red cheapos that are on it.

I looked inside the Sony TT i have to replace its RCA wires, but those little "hair" wires from the cartridge scared me out of it. Seems like a maticulous job when you have a soldering iron moving around close by...

Needless to say, this would not be a swap job of cable that i feel confident in doing right so close to the little hair wires...

Also jengland, i noticed from the pics that the headshell is An LP Gear headshell with gold interconnects and an audio technica cartridge. So, right out of the box, it should sound good until i replace with a Grado gold..

Any thoughts on that headshell? Worth keeping or should i be on the lookout for an upgrade?

Thanks for the feedback!

Clueless

No clue on the headshell or the cart, sorry.
yes I did replace the interconnects on mine. Home made solid silver three strand braided with Neutrik connectors on the end. My son is the soldering expert and honestly it was not a tough job to remove the old IC and solder on the new. They were easy to get to and as long as you're carefull the tonearm wiring comes in from the other side of the little terminal lug board so it is straightforward.
Good luck and have fun!

That unit is missing its feet. The bottom of the unit has a thin plywood cover with a small screw at each corner. The small screws used to secure the missing feet.

Inside of the unit are four compliant rubber bushing that support the plinth on the thin plywood cover. It is important to mount replacement feet to it and not the plinth.

There are photos and more info in my 825D thread.
