Concept Gaining In Popularity!!!

VS states that the "D" series (7.0D 70wpc and 12.0D 120 wpc, analog tuner with digital display) is produced in Korea - I have not had that confirmed from anyone at this point, but will look into it.

Rgds,

When my next 12.0D arrives, I will post a pic of the hindquarters so that the entire world can see "Made In Korea". That's what it says on the back of my other one that has been sitting in my Tech's shop for the past 5 months.

I've got a technical question for some of you concept veterans. When turning my 6.5 to the tuner section it takes approximately 6 seconds (I timed it) for the music to begin to play. However, on my 3.5 it begins playing immediately. Is there some type of delay built into the 6.5 that the 3.5 doesn't have, or is there a problem with the unit that needs addressing? The delay doesn't affect the sound in fact, the longer the unit is played the better it sounds.

Clearly, your 6.5 has a problem.

m58dh, if the 6.5 is like the 16.5 there is a muting circuit that activates a reed relay when ever the function selector is changed. It also does the FM muting function. This makes changing music sources and the FM muting very quiet to prevent damage to your speakers. If the 6.5 has this same feature it may have developed a time delay due to aged components. See if you have the same time delay if you change FM stations with the FM muting on.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll have my tech take a look at it. It's sound and build quality make it worth investing in a repair job!

Sub-forums at AK.

How long before the masses are asking for a separate forum for the Concept? :D

MitsuMan, you are, whether intentionally or not, raising an important and philosophically interesting principle question impacting profoundly on the future direction of AK: I am not looking to start a flame war here or anything (but fear that I might, and believe me, I know this is not the first time this issue has been brought up or even hotly debated!), but we already have Pioneer and Sansui sub-forums, and recently opened the new Marantz sub. Not only will "generalist" forums such as this one - VSS - get less and less traffic (and subjects get more obscure) as this is happening, but it is also questionable if the separate sub-forums get sufficient traffic to justify their existence.

Here comes the real issue for me: I joined AK to learn about vintage gear, with open arms and without prejudice, of all brands and types. With more and more subforums (did anyone visit the Infinity Speaker forum lately???), I am wondering if we, as collective AK members, become more and more insular, narrow-minded, and ignorant about those brands that we do not follow - I for one, do not have the capacity to follow half a dozen branded forums. Most critically important, where do we raise generalist, across brand, questions such as:

- what brands and models of receivers were designed with dual transformers?
- what are the best low-output receivers with pre-out / power-in?
- what amps feature stamped letter face plates?

(you get the idea!)

to get the maximum of AK members behind it? I mean, if the Sansui, Marantz and Pioneer specialists are hiding over at their respective sub forums, we may never reach the full potential of AK members' collective knowledge.

I am a guest here, and really appreciate the work done here by Admin and mods, but I am just wondering if we are heading down the wrong avenue with the addition of more brand-specific forums: If I was in charge here, I believe I would consider (donning flame-retardant suit while typing) folding all branded amp sub forums into this one - Vintage Solid State, and do the same with Speakers, etc, as it might apply.

Rgds,

we just have to learn to love them all for there pluses and minuses

Being a newbe to vintage gear and starting out with a calibre 225, it was natural to upgrade to a concept..or 2...or well actually 3. All "low" power 5.5 , 4.5 , 2.5,all have wonderful sound, that's what I like is the Concept sound. I don't mind paying a resonable price for quality vintage gear, most working class people can't afford to dish out thousands of $ for comparable new gear.
