What's up with this, seller on ebay?

I won't mention any names, but there is this guy selling high end pieces, all his starting bids are $9.99, but it is not actually an auction, in his listing he has a BIN price, is he trying to avoid sellers fees?, also it seems you have to contact him directly? I'm not saying it's a scam , i'm just curious

Is it the guy who you are required to contact in order to be "PRE-APPROVED"? If so, I believe he contacts you and then asks you to call him to make a deal on the piece.

Fee avoidance at its finest! I don't have a problem saving money but of you are going to use the system, you should pay more than a standard listing fee. I would not buy from him as I assume if he is willing to do business in this fashion, there is no telling what he would do to a consumer with no chance of even posting feedback. he probably will not accept Paypal either leaving you with no protection whatsoever.

I used to start all my auctions at 9.99 or higher plus have a BIN too. . .Nothing wrong with that at all. . . You still pay a final value fee. . .I do it not because of any fees but to give the buyer a chance to go either way. He can either buy it now or bid on it. If there is no reserve the BIN drops off when the first bid is placed anyway. . .It only benifits the early buyer.

I have also used a reserve plus started at 9.99 and still had a BIN.

I don't understand how the seller is avoiding anything. . .It is just another way to list your prices.

Now I only have a "Fixed Price" auction but I will accept offers. . .It is my gear and it will sell at my price or it will not sell at all. . .There are millions of auctions to bid on. Sometimes I lose money where some items might go higher but its really not about the money so much as its about placing that item with the right buyer. . .

I agree with you here. . .Not kosher. . .

Is this the guy in England with all of the tube stuff? I've noticed him the last few weeks. I don't see how he gets away with it.

No, the guy in England (or wherever he/they are) are scammers who steal accounts and other pics and then request you contact them directly for an UNBELIEVEABLY cheap price. They have no product and only looking to steal from those who are not as skilled in the ways that these thieves take advantage of unsuspecting members.

The individual I am referring to places so called legit auctions and probably does have the item but is requesting you email him to be pre-approved. He then emails back to contact him directly for more info. This way, he has no fee other than the minor listing fee to post the auction. Costs him about a dollar per listing. You can't bid on it without pre-approval but that is never offered.

Totally unkosher!

yes that's him, he sates in his description that it is not actually an auction, and not to bid, he doesn't offer BIN as part of the auction, it's something he puts in his description only. i figured it's a scam.
