Odd fellows; Acoustech?

I can fix it but good...

I've never seen or heard of these before; the Acoustech integrated amp and the matching model VIII solid state tuner. My understanding is that these were offered as kits and sold (kitted?) in Cambridge MA. Everything seems to work fine (even the bulbs). I cleaned up the controls and will hook them up to some nice speakers tomorrow. The guy I bought them from did the art work on the manuals (which he gave me too).
I like all of the socketed transistors on the amp. It's as if they expect you to take them down to the transistor tester at the drugstore if something fails! Actually probably there because they thought people would cook the trannies when soldering.

I also picked up a very pretty Meissner 8C FM tuner. Lights up but I haven't been able to get any sound out of it. That one's a back burner project.

Wow! I bought one of the integrated amps when they first hit the shelves in about 1966 or 67. They looked like miracles, all in one amazingly light package with 30 watts per and a dampening factor of around six million. Sounded great but blew transistors like watermelon seeds. Do you want to sell yours?

Acoustech amps -- ahead of their time

Oh, I'm reposting this to get a notice of any of all y'all's replies.

Very nice find! Those were and are some really great pieces. I had a friend in college who had a pair of those and the build quality was unbelieveable. The sound was very nice as well. Man I haven`t seen a set since.

Well, I traded these for my Kenwood KR-9600 back in October at the MIT flea market. I talked to the current owner the other day and he said he was sorry he traded because he had the tuner (I think it was) aligned and serviced and the guy screwed it up. He may still have these but I'm not likely to see him for several months. If you're really interested PM me and eventually I'll give him your email. It may not be for 2-3 months though.

I have one ACOUSTECH III AMP driven by an ACOUSTECH VI PA

Hi
All my ACOUSTECH III Amp and ACOUSTECH VI PA i have, are in good working order, but i need for check a service manual for my ACOUSTECH VI PA (in particular i need the DC voltage of its power supply ).
Could you help me ?
Best regards

Sorry but I do not have service information for any of this gear anymore and it will certainly be a tough thing to track down for you.

Thank you anyway.. and could you test ?

Thank you anyway and i agree it is difficult to get any precise info from the net.
On the other hand, i believe that the PA module into your ACOUSTECH VII should be similar to mine into my ACOUSTECH VI PA.
So that could help me to know its DC voltage power supply.
Then could you check it and tell me how many volts are coming to this PA module ?
Mine is 20 DC Volts... and its sems to be too low based on schematic i have where no value of DC voltage is written !
keep my informed
Best regards

As mentioned in post #5, I got rid of these over 2-years ago.

Take a look at the voltage rating of the main power supply capacitors - the voltage across these caps should be in the range of ~75% of that voltage as a rough guideline. I'm thinking 20 VDC is way too low.
