My KEF Concertos have arrived!

ToTo Man

NEVER ENOUGH TOTO!
My babies have arrived  .

Boxed in their original boxes and packaging (packaging so good I couldn't believe it!), and in absolute MINT condition . I'm in love :). Almost snapped my back carrying the two 29.5kg boxes up 4 flights of stairs but boy they were worth it, just to stare at their classy beauty. The gods are really looking out for me at the moment :D. Haven't been able to hook them up cos as you know, I'm still awaiting the crossovers, but so far they have been worth every penny just as furniture  .
And, before you say it, I'll say it....... :worthless
Rest assured, pics will follow asap

Im a big KEF fan i bet you will be exstatic once you have heard them.
im currently planing on making some KEF speakers myself, 4 way consisting off B139 bass drivers, B110 midranges , T27 tweeters, and coles 4001 super tweeters run off falcon accousitc crossovers all in a big tower type speaker.

Feast yer eyes on these, boys :D

Sorry for the poor pics, - the camera flash is so intense that it doesn't do the condition of these speakers justice, - trust me they are mint. The Burma Teak veneer is to die for . The 3rd pic (no flash) gives a more accurate representation of the gorgeous colour of the veneer. Even the back of the speakers is finished nicely in a 'speckled granite' kind of effect.....

You'll like that combo. I'm using same except the Coles is replaced by Celsestion HF2000, all packed in a 9' transmission line enclosure. Sweet doesn't begin to describe it.

It's Zolatone (sp?) usually used in the interiors of boats, but it sure is tough stuff!

Nice speaks! :thmbsp:

Kenwood Lover,

They are gorgeous mate. Absolutely gorgeous. Go easy with them though, older speakers don't like too much power.

If they sound anything like what I would expect them too then you are in for a treat my friend.

BTW, if you do happen to get the itch to upgrade, give me first refusal?

Thanks for the compliments Trawlerman.

I'm hoping I've now 'dipped my toe' into the Audiophile world. They should pair up with my Yamaha CR-2020 quite nicely. Yeah the power rating of the KEFs (50w max) did worry me at first, but at my loudest listening levels with my 93db/1w Wharfedale speakers I never see my VU meters go over 10w, even at my loudest listening levels, so I think I'm gonna be okay with them. I'm planning to build a set of 'subtle' subwoofers anyway so that I don't need to risk using an EQ on the Concertos as they're far too precious for that abuse

So exactly how many pair of speakers do you now have? Are any of them Kenwoods? Enjoy. :thmbsp:

:lmao: Too damn many! My bedroom and music room are like store rooms at the moment! Not including HT rears etc, between the two rooms I've got 11 pairs :yikes: (although those include one's I'm storing for my dad). I've still got 2 pairs of Kenwoods :D. I'll be selling a pair VERY soon, and I'll hang on to the last pair for sentimental value......

Time for a name change maybe? "Speaker Freak" might fit. Just kidding I still have over 25 pair although I'm getting rid of at least 1/2 of them. Thats what I told the wife anyway!

Quick update:
My exams are over  , and I've just bought a soldering kit so I'll be getting the babies up and running tonight hopefully. More pics and a review will follow over the next few days :) .......

Quick update:

After a LOT of struggle with replacing all the internal wiring and soldering, I've managed to get one complete speaker hooked up. First impressions: A bit disappointed.... Great bass, but the treble isn't as sparkly as I was hoping for. I ran a test-tone CD and it produces all the frequencies fine, but in recreating the music it just lacks that 'sparkle' that I've grown to love from my Wharfedales and Goodmans. Its too early to make full opinions as I haven't got them hooked up in the proper room or as a stereo pair yet, so I'll reserve that for the weekend, but at the moment I'm slightly disappointed :( . One good thing though is the bass , which has given me even more of an incentive to build some KEF subwoofers. I was planning on running the subs with the Concertos, but running them with the Wharfedales may turn out to give me more of the sound I crave......
