Electrecord

Hello,
So i would like to get a turn table and the only TT that i remember is the one my parents had when i was a kid in the former east block country of Romania.Anyways now i would like to get my own and there are a million things out there, belt drive, direct drive....brands from A to Z...,cartridges,etc.Could somebody give me a heads up on what to look for...? and maybe something not very expensive (if there is such a thing...,last thing is for my whife to hear that...honey can i spend $1000 on a TT,what the hell is a TT...?,I can hear her say that...and aren't the turn tables gone...i thought cd replaced them...it's nice to know what she will say...)

Thank you.

Hi - what is most important to you? Sonics, looks, durability, ease of use?

The link that nsgarch provided has stunningly beautiful, easy to use NEW tables. But many of the vintage (think 1970's) TT's look different in a retro way, and have specs far better than many new models (on paper at least). I have never listened to a new, pricey TT, so sonically, I can't judge. But the old TT's that were built like tanks sure can sound good with a great cartridge. That's my preference.....

I'd lean towards finding a good old TT and dropping most of your money on a good cart/stylus.

My opinion only, though....

Good Luck,
Rob

A budget is a place to start. What are your other components. Do you like to start small and upgrade? Or do you like to find something you hope will satisfy for a few years? What are your vinyl sources, used or new? There are plenty of entry level table and cartridge combinations that won't break the bank and will perform decently

I think i just may have found what i was looking for...

Hi everybody and thank you for the tips on TT.I guess i should have mentioned that i only wanted something basic...perhaps musicaly decent...and for only $350 (in Canada) smuchers i settled for a Denon DP-300F .It looks modern enough to complement the rest of my new/newer gear (one of the audio systems,i got two more retro/vintage gear audio/video systems downstairs...an admited audio/video...more audio than video holic),i have yet to hook it up,i seem to be coming home late from work and i'll give it a try on the weekend...providing i find my records...wouldn't that be funny...the wife telling me: honey, those records were thrown away long time ago...!,i think i know where to look for them.
Any opinions on that particular TT ?
Thank you all.

I hate to change the topic, because I would like to pick up a back-up for my
B&O but nsgarch...Oh my god.
You have the craziest set-up I have ever seen!(in a good way) I do not think I would be worthy of laying eyes on that let alone listening to it.

I tell you what, I will trade you:
ADCOM GTP 750
ADCOM GTA 7400
Axiom floor fronts and bookshelf rears
B&W 1000 Sub
and B&O TT with MMC 1&2

What do you say???????
