New Frazier owner...

pmsummer

simul justus et peccator
...to be revealed later today? Someone in the Commonwealth appears likely to join the club. Hopefully we'll know more later today.

Stay tuned to AK.

In local news is the arrival of my Frazier Midgets (I think). They took the slow boat from Ohio, but arrived today. These have a full-range 4.5" speaker in each 16x10x7" case. Dual Helmholtz Slots on the back. These will restore nicely.

Oh... and they both have steenkin' nice badjes! :thmbsp:

You are just turning into a regular Frazier "ho" aren't you? :D

Well, more of a glutton.

Beyond the fact that they are such nice sounding speakers (and that's where the music escapes from), it's also pride in a local company that came close to being forgotten.

Of course, I am hurting myself by being a Frazier Evangelist... the prices are starting to climb.

Check the drivers in those Midgets. I have had three and two had the paper surround come apart. Did really like the sound of the single that did work though.

That's the cabinet that I used as inspiration to build my Fostex FE103 cabinets. Cableguy has a pair.

Thanks for the tip. I'm listening to them now (the 7 wpc Nikko fed by a lossless iPod), and I am damned amazed. Yeah, I'm predisposed to like 'em... but I REALLY like what I'm hearing. Listening to some Dixie Land/Gospel, and the woodwinds and brass are soooo sweet sounding!

Ooooh. Got pics of that project?

I guess PM means me ;)

Yep I love my single. The drivers are very impressive for a small fullranger.

Someday I'll find a pair of Fraziers to call my own. Everytime I see a Frazier thread it just kills me to look.

Here's a pair of my creations without the drivers.

Gary, Todd Crane (former Sales Manager of Frazier) commented today that Frazier used the same driver in Midgets that Bose was using in 901s.

His comment was, "Buy a Bose 901, and have a lifetime supply of Frazier Midget drivers."

Here's a series II 901 driver and it sure looks like the ones from my cabinets. Not a blue cone and no foam surrounds though.

I'm almost positive now these are the 'Black Box' F-8-3X. These have a tweeter like in the brochure I've seen, no horn like I was hoping they'd have.

Dimensions:
19" W x 24" H x 12" D

The cabinets are beat up, but everything sounds good. I have to fix the terminals on one, do some sanding, etc. but no big deal.

I'm not really qualified to say how they sound, except great to me... Not enough experience to draw from. The only experience I have is with my Ascend Acoustic CBM-170 Bookshelf's and the KLH Model 6 in the picture. Compared to the Model 6, they seem to be more open on the high end. I was expecting a less punchy bass from the ported design, but these seem pretty tight.

I'll open them up tomorrow and post pics, sorry no grill removal on these...

How about a pic with the back off.

I'll break out the drill tomorrow and get a few.

Right now I'm enjoying some Sufjan Stevens. I just finished Dark Side of the Moon which I guess is my test record, thumbs up from me... But I don't know much ;)

When picking them up the store owner hooked them up to his Pioneer amp that had just been playing on some monster roller rink speaker (PM, they weren't Frazier's.). Apparently he didn't turn it down first and for a good 15 seconds the woofer was... I guess bottoming out (?) from the volume/power. I'm a little worried about the surrounds.

I'll know tomorrow I guess,
Blake
