One way to expose the kids to old school

rock 'n roll.

Got a shot of the grandkids playing Guitar Hero on the PS2 on New Year's Eve. They are seven and eleven and have really gotten into being Guitar Heroes over the past few months. Here they were playing Shout At The Devil by Motley Crue.

The grand-daughter can also be heard singing Cheap Trick's Surrender to herself on occasion. Much better than Ashlee Simpson.

Couldn't agree with you MORE!!! I got it for my son who is 15 and is starting guitar lessons. He has already done Steve Ray Vaughn "Texas Flood" in the hard setting, so I just had to plug it into the aux channel of the 9090db and play it loud.

I didn't think it would be that much fun. I also know I'm not a guitar hero (couldn't make it through the easiest song on easy setting).

Oh well, fun to listen to all the great old tunes and I hear guitar hero II has some more interesting picks...

Got my kids GH1 and 2 for Christmas. It's mucho harder than it looks but is a lot of fun all the same. My 12yo boy is pretty good at it but my daughter just gets upset with it.

Try ZZ Tops "Sharp Dressed Man" It sure sounds like an easy song until you get to the medium setting. Don't have a clue how anyone could do the hard setting on these.

BTW, in GH2 you can slow the song down where you cannot with GH1.

They have both versions - started out with GH II, then picked up the first one.

I tried the rhythm part on "Jessica" while the grandson did the lead - I'm not so sure the rhythm isn't the harder part.

Best part though is hearing them hum some of those songs away from the game.

I wondered how that game works and "if" it could be fun at all. What does the monitor do for you? Is it a stage setting that follows your moves? Sounds interesting, probably would be fun to watch as well.

I'll do my best since I've only seen it a few times - the boy has a guitar plugged into the PS2 - the guitar consists of 5 colored buttons on guitar neck and a white button down where you would strum strings (it has not strings of course) - you select a song and a skill level. The song starts playing and on the screen you see 5 different swim lanes (best I could think of) where each lane would represent a guitar string. Circles come down these lanes and at the bottom of the screen, you are supposed to strum the white button to play the string - if you play it right, it sounds like part of the song, if you miss it, it plinks. The more misses and the crowd starts reacting in a bad way. There are also places where you hold the note and there is even a bar for the whawha effect (not sure what the bar is supposed to be called).

It looks easy, but it takes some time to get used to it. It is a lot more fun than I thought it would be. I'm sure some of the other guys can help fill in where I missed...
