I got this cable, from BrianB, at the Fest. This was the model cable he used on his Lector cdp, into the Manley Stingray.
Soundstring recommends this model for digital sources. I used it on my Arcam Alpha One cdp, into an Almarro A205, driving Almarro M1A speakers. Chord Silver Siren ICs, and Chord Carnival Silver speaker cables, used as a stereo pair, not biwire.
The Soundstring is rather ordinary, in appearance, at first glance. White jacket, white IECs, the opposite of the 'black disposable OEM power cord". The hefty connectors do have a satisfying feel to them, when you seat them. The cord is VERY flexible, almost supple. It was a snap to run, behind my rack.
Good fortune smiled on me, as the Zebra cable was here, on Russman's demo program, so I had a shootout. The Soundstring nosed out the Zebra, in imaging, bass output and definition, and, for lack of a better term, making my system more engaging. All this from a $40 power cord. I went back and forth, every 3 days, after I had formed an impression of the Zebra, to test my observations. When I realized that I didn't want to take out the Soundstring, I knew that I was clear on the winner. The Soundstring doesn't have the 'cool factor' of the Zebra, no woven jacket, no 'fat boy' IECs, just a 'plain jane' cord. It just makes my system sound better. That's all I want it to do. Thanks, BrianB.
