Marantz history...

mikey3117

Victory is mine!
Here's an interesting account of Marantz's history from their website. Nothing new here really for the Marantz fan but I guess I didn't know that Marantz had changed hands again in 2002 to D&M Holdings, which also includes Denon... The article completely glosses over the products from the 70's! I understand the innovative early products from the 50's and 60's, but what about the great high quality stuff from the 70's...

cool...thanks!

I cruised around their site now I want a SR9600 A/V Receiver with the ever cool Gyro Touch tuning! They still need to put some blue lights back into their new models.

Glosses over the 70's.....Marketing guys did that most likely to aviod reminding people of those great products that still can be bought on EBAY...and why buy new when the old stuff still rocks. Long live the 70's Marantz....

I want an 8B, too...

But, on topic, you can see, and read a little about Saul's house in NY:

Glosses over is an understatement.
"If products from the late seventies somewhat diluted the Marantz brand image, the decades that followed restored the company to its former prestigious position in high-end audio separates."

No kidding! They are almost implying that the 70's was a failure for the company...

I guess you might think the 70's ended in failure.... but failure is relative...they owned the market....then ended up being bought out... but the bad economy had more to do with it....

I still think they are avioding the vast pool of great 70's hardware on Ebay....

Different Management

That account represents the Marantz Japan take on things.

Take a look here for Superscopes view of history...

http://www.superscopetechnologies.com/about/superscope.shtml

In the lucrative N American market "The company then changed its name from Superscope Inc. to the Marantz Company. In 1987, Joseph Tushinsky retired as chairman when the Marantz Company was purchased by Dynascan Corporation (today's Cobra Electronics Corp)."
