I figured out how to plug in the soldering iron now I want to build an amp (slight exaggeration but not by much!)

This board on ebay is on my short list as I do not want to use a volume and would rather use it as a power amp to my Decware CSP2. I assume this means I use RCA directly to the board input?

Where do I buy a transformer like the one pictured?

Any help to keep me from killing myself or burning down my house would be appreciated!

I bet you can find one at Parts Express :scratch2:

Ah, what would I look for? I know it is a Toroidal Transformer but what volts/amps? I think the input on the board are 24V and 12V?

They work nicely with a standard SMPS - otherwise known as a wall-wart. I use a 13.8V 4A SMPS on my Sure Electronics amp, works well, and a lot smaller and more efficient than a standard linear power supply. You can easily find a 12V 3A or 4A SMPS at the thrift stores...

Whoops, looks like it is 24v and 12v! Made a mistake already and I have not even started.

I know a wall wart would work but I've been told these really respond to a good power supply. How would I use a wall wart for both 24V and 12V?

Well with the ebay link removed it made it a bit more difficult to find but the back of the board states 2 x 24vac at 200w and 1 x 12vac at 1A. You could find suitable transformers on the Antek site but I don't think they have one transformer that will cover both.

Oh, that amp has the rectifiers and filters built in. It's meant to be used with a transformer. Did you check the seller's other items? He's likely to be selling the matching xformer for this amp. With that PS requirement, it must be putting out 100W or more...

Thanks for the help guys!

Yes, I tried that and also sent a question with no luck yet. Looks like the moderator did remove the ebay link (whoops sorry!).

Do a search on TA2022 and it should pop up?

Here are some of the specs:

3tb_100130115102vdk5198818.bmp

Basic features:

1. Midpoint voltage precision adjustment and DC shifts protection.

2. With over-voltage, over-temperature, over-current protection indicator

3. Ultra-thin design perfectly compatible within 43-44MM aluminum cases

4. One board, OCL BTL two options for eash choose. When connect it to BTL way, it can output 200W power, easily drive big speaker.

5. The amplifier integrated power and protection circuit. With more reasonable components layout and more superior performance, convenient installation, will give you a whole fresh enjoy.

Using double-sided PCB design. Adopts special "analog and digital" clothing panels. Close the chip switch power supply inside and using external regulated power to provide more cleaner power to ICs and circuits. The noise control is very good, no matter big volume or small, no any hum at all.

Components list:

1. TA2022 chip, Tripath original analog input class T digital power amplifier.

2. 3 terminal voltage IC: Japan, NJRC original NJM317F, performance is better than NJM7805A MOT, ST.

3. First power filter use top class filtering capacitor: adopt Japanese original NCC four 4700UF50V and one 4700UF16V, guarantee the surging power support.

4. Secondary filter: Taiwan Suncap power, 2 1000UF50V, LOW resistance, LOW frequency switching circuit ESR optimal collocation.

5. Precision adjustable potentiometer: original American BOURNS, 10 laps precision, stable and reliable performance.

6. CBB capacitance: all original RIFA EVOX Sweden.

7. Particularly customized 10A import red ring output inductance, any temperature and large current can ensure stable performance.

8. Original new omron relays, Germany ERO axial pin (MKT metallized polyester terephthalic acid ethyl ester) two special audio fever supplements capacitor

so if I can't find a 2x24V+1x12V transformer do I just run two transformers? One 2x24v (200W) and one 1x12v (1A)?

Looks like you might have too. Antek appears to be the cheapest route, though I didn't do a lot of searching. Have you considered the pre-built units? They look pretty decent, but $220 is a bit steep, especially for someone who has picked up (admittedly much larger) vintage 100Wpc power amps for $10...

I have not seen a ready made T-amp that is what I want so I'm thinking to just build my own. Bought the board today so I'm commited now. I think the transformer is my only problem. It's never easy is it?

I'd use the Antek AN-3222 for the 24v supply and wire both secondaries in series on an AN-0206 for the 12v supply. Someday I'm going to gut a Pioneer amp chassis and use that for a high powered T-Amp. I looked into it quite a bit after I built a TA-2020 kit but I haven't made any progress.

Looks like the AN-3222 is 2x22V? Don't I need 24V?

So for the AN-0206 (which is 2x6v?). I connect two of the output wires together (which two?) and then the other two go to the board?

On the 120 side, do I just connect the two transformers in parallel?

It doesn't have to be exactly 24v and odds are that the Antek transformer will be higher voltage than it's rated at anyway (at least their tube toroids are). The Tripath chips don't like to be overvolted at all so it's best to err on the low side. I recommended the 300w unit simply because that's what I've seen recommended for full output power into 4 ohm loads. It's only $7 more than the 200w one anyway.

If you don't want to figure out how to wire the 6v transformer in series you could just use the AN-0212 and only use one set of secondary wires. The other one you could cut and insulate.

The primaries of these transformers are set up to use 115v or 230v inputs. You should connect them in parallel for 115v use.

Yep that would work. If you're looking for your cheapest option just stop by your local Radio Shack. The last time I was in mine they had a few different sub $10 12v transformers. I suggested the Antek one just because it would be easier to order from one place.
