Okay folks,
I have twin boys that are 10 years old. One of them(Ryan) has autism and is nearly deaf. Pretty hard blow for me. However, my son Ryan loves mechanical gizzies and trains and planes and machines. He especially loves robots.
We were at the thrift shop and found this wooden head that has a jar on top and dispenses candy when you turn his nose. My son said "ROBOT" - meaning lets make a robot. We spent the next couple of hours looking for junk to build a robot.
It took several more trips and days to the thrift stores to assemble what we needed.
Below are the pics of the almost completed project. Notice his feet - they are a set of the sony computer speakers. His legs are candlesticks. His body is a wire basket and a couple fo canisters. His shoulder from an old tv antenna. And the stereo underneath is a mid seventies panasonic POS. On of the pics is the robot in the dark - this will be his new night light.
I have cleaned everything and gotten it all working. I added lamps and red glass stones for the eyes and an illuminated 12v muffin fan inside one canister for hte heart. On the antenna was a knob to select various setting for it. I used the switch to control weather the eyes are lit up, or the heart, or both.
My son loves it - you should see his smile. Not to mention he is an m&m addict.
Just thought I would share one of those extra cool moments of being a dad.
