I just raided a neighborhood garbage pile. I found a set of Fisher Heritage xp6B speakers similar to these

any opinions?

The cabs are very dirty and I have not had the chance to remove the grills which seem to be in good shape. New project.

Today I had the chance to look at the shape of these speakers one needed a refoam the other had a blown voice coil in the woofer and the tweeter sounds real low maybe needs to be recapped. I cleaned one cabinet of the mud that encrusted it and found the cabinet to be in acceptable condition. I also thought that the cabinet was better lookming than the KLH 20 that I was using. I took the woofer from the KLH and placed it in the Fisher cabinet (which is slightly larger than the KLH and I have installed it in place of the KLH. I am listening to it now. It is serving center channel duties in my bedroom system so far so good.

I bet there aren't too many around anymore. Yeah - fix them up, if they pass a couple of basic tests? Can you make one good one out of what you have?

Yeah - recap the tweets and see how they sound? Pretty cheap test. You can use some Radio Shack $1.98 caps (same value) to see if there is a difference in sound possible? If they sound the same, they may be water damaged - then all bets are off.

Swapping in later woofs if they're toasted is OK, the cabs are the vintage looking part. What size are the woofs? What's the DC resistance across each speaker? Are they close to the same? EBxx has sellers tossing down $12 woofs. They're not great, but they might get you a working pair. Sometimes they work out great - you never know?

If those are 12" woofers, they'd become ass-kicking compression-driver two-ways in less than an hour here....

Hey Zilch, what kind of Fisher horns and compression drivers would you use?

Think I know the answer!!:banana::banana:

They have 10" woofers, DC resistance DK. seems to work fine for now.

10" closed-box?

JBL 125A or 127A often show up cheap on eBay "need refoam." The only difference between them is concave vs. convex mounting of the center dome.

They're members of a small group of JBL drivers suitable for use in acoustic suspension.

If you've got 12" across the baffle, that $10 waveguide (horn) will fit. If not, there's others.... :thmbsp:
