Feet fix

My GW Pioneer PL-518 turntable had the usual rotted away feet so I looked for a way to replace them. I ended up using 1 1/8" black leg tips mounted upside down using the original screw holes. Then I inserted 7/8" leg tips right side up into the bigger leg tips. They work fine and it only cost $6 for all the pieces.

What a great idea! I've been looking for an easy fix for my 518's rotted feet and thanks to you I believe I've found or should I say you found the solution.

It looks great, its effective, and its cheap, it just doesn't get any better than that! :thmbsp:

I'm gonna try that. Amazing what you can do with a walk around the hardware store. I just pulled my 518 from service with the idea of replacing/repairing the feet and giving it a new cartridge and general freshening up.
Thanks
Dan

I got a PL-518 from ebay, 20$ (Plus shipping).
The feet are like new ! Strange it's the first time i saw a PL-518 with intact feet. The only difference i can see with mine, the model number is written in red instead of black. Can be a different version? They fixed the feet part?

Don't know about the feet except that there was a seller who was replacing them with his own. Perhaps Dr. Strangelove (the AK member, not the movie) over at the Pioneer section might know the story behind the red lettering.

Beautiful job. I'm running right over to the Home Depot to get the parts. My $2 PL-518 is finally going to be coming in from the garage. Thanks for the great idea!

13 years later, I purchased a PL 518 with the dreaded foot rot. I went to the hardware store and bought (4) 7/8" table leg tips and (4) 1" tips. Investment was under $8.00. I used the original screws but removed the little disks of rubber that were clinging on. I screwed the 7/8" tips, upside down, one per corner. I then took the 1" and shoved one up over each of the 7/8" tips in the correct orientation (hole at top, base at bottom) (this required a little lubricant; I used saliva as it was handy and inexpensive). At first, they went on but popped back off when I stopped applying pressure. I solved this by drilling a small hole in the bottom of each of the 1" tips to let air escape. Once I did this, the 1" slipped up over the 7/8 " and held firmly. It works! I have never seen the original feet on a 518 as they are all rotted out. I don't have springs in mine, but if I wanted to, I could do that. Down the road, probably if I veneer the plinth and base, I will replace with something prettier, but for under $10.00, this was an easy fix. All credit to EVBoy who came up with the general idea.

Did the same with several Yamaha PX-3 tables over the years. Cheap & works.
