What's a good FM antenna that's not expensive?

I just built this "cubical quad" antenna using some scrap wood and cheap wire...

in the instructions, it says to use two rods, but the final assembly looks like a total of 5, (cut to size), wire wrapped rods, is that correct,

also, for the commercial fm antenna measurement, the side the 300 ohmm lead connects to, there would be a 12.4" gap on that side,( if using two 1/2 'X' dimensions), is that correct?

thank for the info, i'm gonna give it a try,

The analog FM radio band exists in a gap between analog TV channels 6 and 7. In fact, before the dawn of ancient history when we used analog FM tuners, I could pick up Philadelphia's TV channel 6 audio on the bottom of my FM dial.

Wow, decades since I even thought about it, but I recall picking up WCSH-TV (Portland, ME) at the bottom of the FM dial when I was a kid on the old HH Scott "magic eye" FM tuner in the big-ass wooden console my Dad and brother and I built. Doze were da daze....

I have an old Radio Shack 2 element 5 reflector FM antenna with rotor on my roof that's been there for the last 33 years. It's been through 2 hurricanes and countless ice storms. I am absolutely flabbergasted that the thing still works. Good thing because I'm long past the point of going up there to fix it. More on topic though is you can buy 300 ohm dipole antennas from Parts Express for a couple of bucks and tape them to one or two of those bamboo sticks used to support plants. They work very well and there is no roof climbing involved.

i worked the tuner back and forth and some of the minor static is gone now. I get channel 97.9 at full strength (10 miles away 100kW)...The other tier is at 30-40 miles and about that same power...only two bars but I get stereo lock.
