Yamaha CDPs

My new-to-me Yamaha CDX-1120 arrived today. Got it installed in the system and been doing some listening. Am very pleased. Yamaha used to make their own CDPs, but have gone to rebadging units from Philips and Samsung, amongst others. Too bad, as I have both the previous generation CDX-1100U and the CDX-1120, the last of their Yamaha made units. Each weighs about 27 pounds and work like the proverbial Rolls Royce. Very stable and smooth mechanically. And sound-wise they are the best CDPs I've owned (previous are Sony ES and California Audio Labs). Very smooth and detailed without that CD edge that early CDs and CDPs seemed to put out. Am very pleased with their 16-bit (1100) and 18-bit (1120) sound. And a good match for my system. The silver CDX-1120 has an orange display and the black CDX-1100 has green. Neither shows up very well in the washout from the camera flash. The CDX-1120 also has a nice 'door' that rotates up to hide the controls and leave it with a very classy looking smooth front. If you are looking for a good, not so old CDP, these are good candidates. Excellent build quality and terrific sound.

Actually, both the CDX-1100 and 1120 are 18 bit. But, if you want to go really high-end with Yamaha, try this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5861497924&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1 The only higher-end from Yamaha was the CDX-10000. But, they are even more rare. All are 18-bit. I would tell you the other model I am looking for, but will only do so once I own it. Don't need any competition. :D These CDPs from Yamaha are amazingly well built and sound as good as their construction.
