brochure scans for the Advent 6003

Hi first post here.

As a long time fan of Advent speakers, I thought someone else might be interested in seeing the brochure for their first 3-way loudspeaker, the 6003. I picked up this brochure myself back in 1983 at CMC Stereo, now defunct, here in Houston. I got to listen to these a little bit at the store and came away impressed. And in person they look even better!

These scans are a little pixelated because the original 200dpi scans resulted in jpeg file sizes averaging @1MB, so for uploading purposes I had to reduce them.

BTW: my screename refers to the second pair of speakers I ever built, back in 1983 my senior year in high school in wood shop class. They were based on a kit bought at Radio Shack & consisted of a 12" woofer, a 5" midrange and a 1" soft-dome tweeter. The kit also included a full 12dB/octave crossover network.

Right now I'm using another RS sourced speaker as my subwoofer: I found an orphan Nova-8 at a resale shop last year in perfect working condition - hooray for cloth surrounds! - and am using my Pioneer SX-6 receiver bought in 1983 to power it with the LFE signal coming from my A/V receiver. Very smooth, rich and quite extended bass from this 30 year old acoustic-suspension speaker, and powerful enough to cause my CD player placed 6ft away in a rack to skip!

Just curious...are these Advents also known as "Maestro's" as well? Good information here- thanks
DC

Oooh, those are pretty!
I like their styling too. They are sort of a product of the 80s new wave thing i.e. angular/non-90 degree lines but tempered with Advent's classy traditional furniture-inspired style.

DC: I think when Advent restyled these to look like much larger versions of the Baby Advent (I owned a pair of the first series Babys for 14 years), that is when they renamed them the Maestros.

BTW: I'm still trying to find a brochure for the Large Advent - the 5002? the one with the parabolic dome tweeter - that I have (somewhere!) which I grabbed at the same time as the 6003's brochure.

What was really interesting in it was the photo of that model with optional light oak veneer and matching bullnose trim piece but still using the same tan grill as the walnut version. I have never seen one of these. It looked quite nice in the picture.

Awesome!
I've wanted some kind of information on these things for forever.
They are a fine sounding speaker.
I think that these are very much like the Maestro, only it had a square box shape. The total volume should be (obviously) very close to the same. There was also one other "numbered" model with this dome mid, at least that I've seen.

Yeah, the Maestro's are different. I have a pair, and like them very much. They appear to have a larger woofer, but the tweeter and "donut" mid are the same. And, they have a foam covering over the entire baffle.

These speakers have very smooth midrange and treble with tight bass. I think mine are the only set in existence with the original woofer surrounds still intact, as I understand they are known for falling apart.

6003 scans

Great scans!! I've been looking for more info on these.

I just picked up a pair of these for $70; needed a woofer re-foam, and I had to coax the midrange dome out with a heat gun and vacuum cleaner, but now they're like new and do sound good...

Thanks for the pics..

Red foam was a temp fix... they're now refoamed with original grey... not as stiff as the red "vega" style foam

....coax the midrange dome out
Jeez what is it that makes some people have to push these in, along with woofer dust caps & tweeter domes? Arggh. I guess it's a variant of the "bubble wrap" syndrome. :D

I've noticed this same general design has been appearing again lately, especially with some better Pioneer automotive speakers, though theirs appears to be made of a foam-like material.
