Fixing a Marantz Power switch?

Here's the deal, I recently bought a 2250 which is in near perfect condition, except for one small problem, the power button doesn't stay engaged unless you hold it down. I already tried deoxit and that didn't work. Is there a simple way to fix this otherthan replacing the switch?

Sorry - no easy way.

But check the top of the switch (you can probably see it if you use a flashlight) and verify that the little metal lever is still there. It moves back and forth inside some tracks on the plastic shaft and causes the "click" you should hear. If you are very lucky, it is still there but out of the track. Put it back in - easier said than done.
If it is not there, check inside of the unit for a lttle piece of paper-clip diameter sized wire bent into mostly a "U" type shape. Then, put it back into the switch under the spring - big bent end towards the back of the switch. It's possible - but not easy. I'd just replace it.

Digi-Key has power switches that will replace the lousy ones Marantz used. They will accept the push button very nicely.

Hate to hijack this thread but...
Merrylander, I am a novice in the repair world and have a 2235 that is in need of a new power switch. The question for me is how to figure out which one I need and that will fit the receiver. Any help would be most appreciated.

thanks,
rick

Fig. 1. You just have to determine what the screw spacing is.

The E-Switch has two sides, each rated for 7A. Parallel them for a 14A rating.

You'll also need a new saftey cap. The Kemet 10,000pf will work well. Part #399-9537-1-ND.

Digikey numbers all.

Edit: Digikey's stock varies. Check Mouser, as they usually have both 18mm and 20mm switches.

Hey Glen,
Is this for either unit?

thanks,
rick

The switch will work for most Marantz units and many Pioneer units that have a pushbutton power switch.

Thanks Glenn. Very kind of you to share the info. I can't tell you how long I would have looked for the correct part =).

I bought mine off ebay from a guy selling them for $10 with shipping. But after that, I saw that dgwojo sells them even cheaper still. :dammit:

Yep, $3, mine are rated 5a, but as Glen said, it can be wired for double that!! Not many left, I hope to get more, my latest addition is the exact feet and metric screw for Marantz gear, Dave.

Old thread, I know. But it is the actual problem with my 2270. The powerswitches named here work as they should, but they have a smaller Pin for the button. So my question is, which powerswitch is recommended and how do You fix the Marantz button?

i use several turns of teflon tape to thicken the shaft, works pretty well.

Dragging up an 7 year old thread.:headscrat

I just ordered this switch and safety cap for my 2325. Can someone verify how to parallel the switch for a 14A rating?

I can get a hold of a switch, but what about the silver cap that goes on the plunger? Someone ripped out the whole switch on my ebay purchase.
