Sansui CD-V350 CD Player

Duffinator

Spin The Black Circle
I finally snagged a Sansui CD player off of CL. The owner had it listed with a bunch of stuff I didn't want and originally didn't want to separate it from the other stuff but finally did. It was manufactured in July 1986 and made in Japan. Not sure if Sansui made it or somebody else but it's of typical construction for a CD player from this era with decent but not outstanding quality. It has the Original Sansui logo (or at least 60's 70's version) silk screened on the front and was not offered with a remote. I purchased it from the original owner who said it hadn't been used in over ten years and saw very little use when it was in service. It had Pearl Jam's first CD still in the tray, score! There is barely a mark on it and it works perfectly. It even plays CD-R's. :D It also has the original Sansui decal on the top of the unit.

Sound quality seems fine but I have not listened to it much yet. I purchased this more as a novelty. Like many of you I constantly check my local CL and am always tempted to buy anything with the Sansui name on it. It will most likely go in one of my kids rooms and I'll bring it out when any of you Sansui Fanatics come visit. :thmbsp:

Here's the specs:

D/A Conversion 16 bit
Freq response 5Hz - 20kHz
THD <0.003%
S/N 100dB
Wow & Flutter under measurable level
Dynamic range better than 95dB
Channel separation better than 90dB

From Orion Blue Book.

It sounds fine and similar to other players I own. It played a full CD-R last night without missing a beat. I'm quite pleased with it and outside of a couple very minor smudges it looks like new.

Does anybody know if Sansui manufactured the player or did they sub it out?

Pop the hood and scan for the usual Sansui F-xxxx board numbering.

Where was the unit made?

I have one that I'm selling. I had no idea it was worth so much money. Makes me wonder if I should keep it then. Hmmm

Welcome!

Unfortunately it's really not worth all that much at all these days though.

The original price when new was $300 (par for the course for most CD players at the time) but they are not a desirable model and would be lucky to be worth one-tenth of that now.

I picked up a V 550R CD player awhile back and after a nice pass with a CD lens cleaner the sound puckered up and I'm enjoying it to the max!!
Nice grab
