Cerwin Vega S2EE

Spotted some huge S2EE CV speakers at a local Salvation Army.
I think someone here has a pair. Oversized boxes 3-way with 15" woofer ported at the rear bottom with what looked like a rear firing tweeter. No grills and mid-range needed refoam. Worker there told me they were his childhood dream speakers.
Asking $100 but was willing to work with me on the price. I was tapped out. Just stopped in for grins since I had not been there for some time.
Wish I had a pic to give you an idea. Front loaded woofer, tweeter, and mid-range along with recessed L-pad with rear port & rear firing tweet.
Have too many speakers already. Was not sure if these were worth the trouble. I am sure they are gone by now, Today is Tuesday and it was Friday when I saw them.
Anyone have these monsters?

I thought THOR's had a down firing woofer? and are tower like. I don't think these are that rare but are not exactly common. The woofers had inverted dust caps along with black surrounds instead of orange?

Sounds like the woofers may be replacements. My Dad bought a pair of S1s while stationed in Germany in the late 70s. He still has them, been resurrounded twice now I think and 1 mid replaced. They were part of the gas bag deal that fooled the speaker into thinking it was in a larger box.

CV used some poly type bags filled with helium or hydrogen or some gas. I guess it was supposed to act like fiberglass fill does in making the speaker think it's in a larger box.

Someone on the forum has posted info about them before. Dad's S1s are the only pair I've ever seen.

I was guessing that might be the case but had to inquire. Interesting.

They're still there, half price, Thursday noon. Woofer surrounds look fragile, too. Open cell foam packed in rear ports. Bashed top corner. I've no room. Anyone have specs or any other info on these?

I did not look them over with a fine tooth comb so I am not even sure they are actual CV's. I am thinking now that the woofers were replaced with later CV's, hence the black surrounds instead of orange, but Hey! I am no CV expert. But looking around I found no reference to S2 EE CV's so I think they are of some other brand modified with replacement woofers. Of course feel free to correct me if I am wrong on this. All I know is those speaker cabs are way big!

Hi all, I just purchase a pair of the cerwin vega S2EE speakers in a combo set of my local CL, sound craftsmen A5002a, DX4200, DBX 3bx III, an other items for a great deal. The CV's are Huge speakers with a 154W 15" woofer believe it to be 4 ohm, 5" mid, 1 tweeter in front & one in the back, ported in the rear for the bass & round ported in the rear for the mid, solid wood construction (very heavy) & solid, the grills have solid wood also, very well built cabinet. I have never been a big CV fan & got them only with the package deal but I have to say I am extremely impressed with these speakers, compaired to my Cornwalls i would say they are pretty close sound wise but with capable more bass & rated for huge watts, they have a crossover selector for each speaker in the front. Can't find out alot of info on them but from my experience with cv i have to say they are the best built, best looking & by far the best sound cv's i have ever seen & heard. definetly keepers, they seem to be pretty rare from what i can find. A:music:ny more info ones these speakers please share.

Don't know about S2EE's, but for S2's:
Freq. Resp.=28-17Khz +/-3db
Sens.+103 db/1w@1meter
Power Handling=250w/r.m.s.
Crossovers=200hz/4000hz

I remember auditioning a pair of these at an Audio Club in Germany around 1980. They are LOUD, and they can PROJECT! At 15 feet away, it sounded like you were INSIDE the drum kit! I have a pair of 212's.

The S-2ee. The EE stands for european edition. These came out later then the US S-2. They are built from thicker 1" cabinets, cross braced, and the back of the mid is ported out the back of the enclousure.

The more i listen to these CV S-2EE's the more they are growing on me, the seem to be very efficient speakers. 1" thick wood all the way around. These had to be High End CV speakers? Are these a rare gem? Any Idea what a nice pair is worth in todays market place? Any info would be greatly appreciated:music:

Hey,

I just discovered this thread a day or two ago.

I have a pair of these speakers. They are S2-EE. Bought at the Naples, Italy Navy Exchange in '84 or '85. I bought them because at the Seamans Club thats what they were using for a huge area. They sure blew up my dorm room on a small AF site about 30 miles away.
Handle 400w RMS

They still Kick Ass. Professional refoamed woofers about 10 years ago. The guy said the speakers were hand made.

I dug around in some old files and found this. Looks like a sales brochure. I wish I could find the sales receipt or a spec. booklet.

The original scan and when I merged and cropped front and back was about 18MB. But there is a limit of around 120- 140KB that the forum lets you upload.
If right click the attachment as select "save target as" you can download it. Open with your image viewer and it should show large enough to view easily.

Fascinating. I have a pair of these, and I, too, have torn the Internet apart searching for data, but without much success. All that I've been able to find so far is a report from a former Cerwin-Vega retailer that these were apparently made in Denmark for the European market. This seems plausible to me, because I have several pairs of Cerwin-Vegas, and these are among the best made of the lot. Only my 12TRs compare in build quality.

I have decided to sell my pair of S2-EEs. I have searched on the internet and can't find a record of anyone selling a pair. There was a guy on Ebay that had a pair of S2s listed for $1089. He took them off so I emailed him. He claimed to have sold to a buddy for $1000. Does anyone know a fair market value of these S2-EEs? See photos. I have also posted a specs brochure. See page 1.
