I have always wanted to build a tube headphone amp, those Chinese ones look great but at $200-$300 it was a leap for me. I came across the SOHA at Headwize http://headwize.com/projects/cavalli2_prj.php designed by Alex Cavalli, Mark Lovell and Bill Pasculle, with a cost of around $45.00. Uses a single ECC82 and relatively safe operating voltages. I liked the version made by member Neurotica , so I started collecting the necessary parts. I really did not want this to look like a 3rd grader science fair project, as my chassis fabrication skills are lacking -so I decided to integrate the headphone amp into my Marantz 2215B(my bench/previous donor unit). It uses the center tap portion of the transformer and the B+ is provided by the 800pcb of the Marantz. I get the satisfaction of building an amp from scratch and having my Marantz sound as well. The Marantz still drive speakers and the headphone amp uses the receivers phone jack, I tapped into the inputs of the power amp pcb for my inputs to the headphone amp. Looking at the web site there are some pre-fabed pcb's. Would have made a neater install, and no point-to-point soldering, but I am happy with my first.. Next is the millett max, then eventually the Dynaclone:thmbsp:
