New Amp, new setup.

Mattwizz3

Web-er-web user...
I was browsing a local op-shop and saw a big integrated amp sitting on top of an old TV. I decided to buy it as it was only $10 and looked good. Its a Teac BX-330, at first I wasn't so excited because I have a Teac Receiver and its sound is pretty disappointing. After a listen I'm extremely happy I bought it! Sounds really nice, its the first piece that I actually preferred the sound of compared to my Rambler. The bass is maby a little less but is much much more controlled and is way nicer to listen to. You can also tell that this system has a lot more power even though that it is only 35Wpc, its much better at higher volume and the bass is powerful and not distorted.. It is now in my revamped system.

Since I was changing the amp I decided to change my tape deck, and I now want a better tuner.

System then:
IntAmp: Rambler SA-3000
Cassette: Toshiba Aurex PC-X88AD
Tuna: Teac T-505
CD: None (Not enough inputs)

System now:
IntAmp: Teac BX-330
Cassette: Sony TC-U2
Tuna: Teac T-505
CD: Sony CDP-C315

It has some funky led watt power meters, and more inputs than my Rambler too. Its only downfall is the source selection knob is missing its cover, so ugly black plastic.

Sorry if the pic is no good, My computer screen died and my spare one is very dark so I cant see the detail very well.

Very nice! I hope you get lots of good miles from her.:music:

Thanks, So do I!

The best thing is that it has aux, tape 1 & 2, tuner and 2 diff phono inputs.
Its nice having tape 2, I can record tapes to my computer now without having to separately set up a tape player.

Has anybody got any documentation for this amp? Not able to find heaps.

Nice set up Matt, what op shops do you frequent? Most in my area dont sell electronics, but I've made myself known to the managers of St Vinnes & Lifeline, they sell me stuff out the back door

There is an Aussie Veterans Op Shop near by where I get most of my stuff, I got my TT there and this Amp as well as some LP's. Heh, I even found a village people LP there but I couldn't bring myself to buy it. There are a few others I visit and I stop off at random ones every now and then but none of them seem to ever get the cool stuff this place gets. I did however replace my CD changer since this thread to a much nicer and MUCH better sounding harman/kardon FL 8550 which I picked up for $10!! sweeeet

For a long time they weren't selling electronics here either because of the newish laws, however most of the places I go to now just put a disclaimer sticker on it saying that you must get it checked by a licensed electrician. I've also made friends with a manager at some community support op shop and he seems keen to help me find stuff, they have a huge amount of old VCR's, TV's, crappy mini systems from the 90's and all that crap but no vintage audio sadly. I'll keep lookin though!

My Rambler amp is getting ready for its new home, I've got a friend into vintage stuff now and I'm happy to loan it to him. He is stupidly careful and fussy with his stuff so I know he'll take care of it! Better to have it being used and enjoyed rather than being kept on a shelf gathering dust. I'll be giving him my old Sony CD changer too. Now it means I can enjoy tunes on a vintage system at my mates place, much better than his $149 Sansui Compact DVD/HT system :puke:. Good for movies but not so good for music.

I have the manuals for BX-330 and TX-550

Drop me a PM if you would like me to copy them for you. They are pretty rudimentary.

I own a mint Teac BX-330, near mint BX-550 and 2 mint TX-550s.

In my opinion, very underrated gear. Though eBay prices seem to indicate that people have worked that out.

Even though all circa 1981 (the build quality seems to a little more plasticky than a few years prior), the sound quality is still there - if not better than the late 70s gear from the major Japnese manufacturers.

Hi Bike 13,

I recently picked up a BX 330 amp & a TX 550 tuner. Both are in good condition and all the functions (and lights) work well. I really like the sound too.

I see that you have copies of the manuals. Is it possible to send me copies or at least a copy of the BX 330 manual?

My email address is workplace@people.net.au.

Thanks,

Mark
