Stuck Behind Some Kids Today...

Sandy G

Retired Member
...At the local Mickey Deez. Three white boys, in a black Honda, make-believing they was from Da Hood, you know what I'm sayin', Dog? They had their caps on backwards, & the latest sub-sonic masterpiece from Mo Feckin' Money was blasting away on the poor Honda's speaks. You actually couldn't hear anything that remotely resembled something called "Music', just a bunch of loud, noisy thumps as the subs blasted & rattled all the pieces that weren't bolted together tightly. It was unreal. I would hate to ride in that car, it will fly apart one day, I'm sure a lot of the welds have broken loose from all that abuse. It hurt ME & I was 10' back in The Mighty Valdez..I SERIOUSLY wonder what the long term effects of being exposed to overly loud sub-sonic & bass tones like that are..Hearing loss is obvious, but I can't help but think it CAN'T be good for you...

Yeah, I really don't get that. I mean, I want a sub for my car, but thats because the 4" full ranges have no bass. I just want to round out my system. But a lot of what I see is just ridiculous.

Most people with big car subwoofer setups like that are actually sitting inside the waveform. They don't hear huge bass - a thirty-hertz sound wave is something like 36 feet long (dependent on temperature and pressure). So they might not be hearing too much low bass, but their car is shaking, and your car, and your skull, and the car behind you. Also something to think about next time you build that great big isobaric sub for your listening room.

Mo Feckin' money's got nuthin' on da man, you know what I'm saying? Damn, Sandy, U got more lines than Ameren.

Wished I'd my CD of "Ride of the Valkyries" to put in, & cranked IT up good 'n' loud...Wagner always scares the natives, you know...Or even "1953" from Time-Life music.."Eh, Cumpari" from Julius LaRosa would have been as incomprehensible & hopefully, as ANNOYING to them as Mo Feckin' Money was to me...

You know they wuz just tryin ta kick it like a slice O wheat toast Sandy. :thmbsp:

I had one today at the 7-11 that was shaking and buzzing the trim on the building. The clerk told them to turn it down and they laughed at him. So after I backed out I started by slowly and stuck one foot on the brake and one on the accelerator. The cloud of Diesel smoke that engulfed them was priceless. I thought the one girl looked like she was going to throw up as I left.:smoke:

Hehehehehe...Nothin' I love better than stickin' it to insolent punks...What was it PJ O'Rourke said once ?- "Age & Guile beats Youth, Inexperience & a Bad Haircut every time..."

I frequently hear these nuisances around here. Many times, I can hear screws rattling in their cars.

I worked with a fella who had two 15" bandpass subs with 1KW amps pushing them, and he was rattling screws. I said something about using a test disc and an SPL meter to level out his sound. We sat in his car one day during lunch and adjusted his system. It sounded pretty good to my ears. The next day, he was back to the thump'd'thump thing.

I also warning him about hearing damage caused by high SPL and tinnitus. It fell on deaf ears.

LOL, funny you would mention "PJ" I am re-reading that exact book for the third time as we speak.

I hate it. My friends do this kinda thing....alls I hear is clippin' and rattlin'.

Poor speakers never had a chance.

Distortion..... Ya gotta love it!! What the hell's wrong with kids these days and their damn insolent ways? Don't hit 'em..... That promotes violence. Hell with that, I was never afraid to hit my kids. Don't get me wrong I never abused them, or over did it, but they got their butts busted when they needed it. They're all pretty much grown now and turned out pretty damn good. They know a bout respect, and practice it daily. Even if you choose not to spank your child, find a way, and hold them accountable for their actions conssistantly (did I spell that right?). IMHO, were feedin' the prison system. Sorry for the highjack!

Rant off!!!

I hoping to learn one day that all that thumping not only causes hearing problems, but also causes sterility.... That way these jerks won't be spitting out any offspring to carry on the grand family tradition of ignorance and disrespect.

I'd rather have quality than just raw pressure, but Ya gotta admit, loud bass can be fun. I was never able to get anything higher than 133db when I did get metered though. :( (Not bad for a single 12" sub and an amp that peaked at 300W - cost me less than $150).

Thankfully I'm older and wiser now...but dammit, it was fun.

LOUD bass is very fun and can be awe-inspiring...when done right.

I'm talking big, big, overkill amplifiers fed by a top-end pre/head unit pumping juice into big woofers in properly-sized boxes. Of course, depending on the car and its electrical system, you may need an alternator upgrade, and some of those big caps which go in-line with the hot terminal to the amps.

In addition, if you've got lovingly set filters and some powerful tmids and tweeters, _run from a seperate amplifier_ you can have a killer car system with plenty of bass waiting to be blasted. But again, not my kinda thing :D

Well, THESE nimrods had nothing but distortion & rattling...Since I am FORCED to listen to their oompa-loompa, thumpa-wumpa BULLSHIT, it's only fair that THEY be subjected to listen to what I like...Howzabout Paul Whiteman's 1919 hit, "Dardanella" ? Or "Marie" by Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey from '37 ? "I Can't Get Started" by Bunny Berigan from '35 has always been a fave of mine as has "I've Got The World on a String" by the late, great Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong from '33...I've got a BUNCH more, & we ain't even got to the Forties yet...And maybe, just maybe, if these future tyre-mounting specialists checked their 'Tudes at the door, they just MIGHT learn that there is life beyond being a Whigger..But sometimes I think that is too much to hope for from today's youth...

O my, so much to say about this post. Though the focus of Sandy's post is about his experience with these youths, we must not forget that without proper training & rearing of children, they are left to emulate that which is accepted in their culture. In Texas we also have the law in effect that limits the noise level of music from cars, but it is often not enforced.

I grew up in a time where if you as a child/teenager got out of line, the adults in the neighborhood would ask you who are your parents & if they deemed necessary to spank you, they would. Also, they would tell your parents & you got it again. Even in the schools, if you got into trouble they would call your parents up to get you & that was not a happy day when you saw them coming. I have seen police on campus at an elementary school for security. For what? How did we as a society let it get to this? These are children.

You see it in public places or stores, an unruly child scrapping with his/her parent & the parent is trying to appease the child in a docile manner. My mom/dad/grandparents would tell you one time to let's go or I am not buying that for you & there was no discussion of the matter. My dad had a special look he would give us when we even thought about acting up.

All said, this generation of youth is not to much different from ours & the past, only that due to the watering down on disciplining your child & the punishment a parent can face, some will not train their kids.

I tell you this, I hate to see youth act out in this fashion, not respecting others. But those who have neglected to raise their children with a firm hand are to blame.

Just venting!
