Last week when the remnants of hurricane Gustav were hitting Ludington, MI we went out on a boat about a 1/4 mile off shore and limited out in about 6 hours, we got wet but it was worth every minute of it!! The cooler weighed about 250+ pounds so it required 2 people to carry it to the cleaning station. I think we caught every kind of salmon in weights between 12 and 24 pounds, it's a great experience and everyone should try it sometime, Dave.

Are the landlocked king's meat the same orange colored as the ocean fish?

You guys need to send some back to California. The salmon season is completely closed this year due to declining returns.

The only stuff we get is farm raised Atlantic salmon with "color added." :yuck:

Wow. Looks like great fun. Never went for Salmon before, always wanted to. Your rods look similar to what we use for Muskie in Northern WI. Do you troll for them or are you casting?

The color varies by species but does have the "correct" color, the Salmon have some nice clean rivers here to spawn in, here's the eggs from some of the females, I can see why they self propagate, there's a ton of eggs in each fish, Dave.

Yep, a slow troll within a quarter mile of shore, that part of the lake can drop to 500' deep in a hurry!!

Cool... do you make bait or caviar with the roe?

You could always make a pie and tell everyone it was a huckleberry pie. Or you could make giant fish egg rolled sushi......

Very nice fish dgwojo. It looks like you have had some very good days on the water. On our river the Siuslaw a very good day is two fish but usually one is the norm if the numbers are there. The fall Chinook is considered one of if not the hardest of the Salmon species to hook up on a regular basis but they are worth the effort.
