I don't have one but I do remember them. They are fun to watch, especially with the lights out. Among other things, we used to put a coin on the top of the globe and then watch the spark jump from the surface of the coin to your finger when it got close enough. It would burn traces into your skin. :yikes:

Sheesh! Kids! One learns the hard way that if you play with fire you get burned!

How about posting some pictures (with the lights out) for members that don't remember them?

My son has a plasma globe we got him some years ago; they are very cool.

I think that the one that corporalcripp has is bigger than the WalMart versions that I saw not too long ago. His should be about 10" in diameter, if I recall correctly. They are the same idea though.

They were really groovy! :smoke: :D

Get one! I have and it's cheap fun and a conversation piece. If your consciousness is in a "higher plain", it's truly a work of electronic art....:huge:

Flat disks too!

Google "Lumin disk" and you get to see the "flat panel" version of the plasma ball, they come in different colors too.:thmbsp:

One sample link here.

I remember when those first came out in the mid 80's, they were north of $400 and considered an exotic toy.

My daughter has a dolphin one. Odd thing is that if you touch it, it turns on the touch lamp across the room.:scratch2:

I had one I sold years ago that I built from an old flyback television transformer. Just google 'Flyback Transformer Experiments', and see all the fun stuff that pops up including Tesla Coils. There is even one that connects to your stereo for some cool visual effects.

cool link dave, I'm going through stacks of lighting catalogs now trying to get ideas for the new cave when we put our addition on.
