The LED Bulb Replacement Thing - HOLY COW!

I finished my LED bulb replacement job on the 2230 and all I can say is WOW! I was a bit surprised how tedious some of it is (small screws, old eyes), but I managed with no screw ups. Don's instruction are perfect, and the product is just great! The panel can now be seen from 100 feet I think! Definitely the way to go.

Pictures! I've got Don's LEDs in my 2235B, and I will agree, they are very nice. I really like his lamps because they are softer and not as glaringly bright as some I've seen on Ebay. No "hot spots" on the dial face, just nice, even, original looking lamps. :thmbsp:

I just completed a 2325 with Don's LED's and I knew it would look a little better but there was quite a WOW factor for me too. No more aqua display - all deep blue now and the light is very even for LED's - no bright spots.

lets see it...

Here we go... for all those, who dont like the look of the LEDs, like me, I recommend to replace the diffusor paper with a new one and to paint the inascendent lamps with blue glass color.

For me, this blue is much nicer then the LED-blue.
Unfortunately, its uncomparable in the pics. You should see it in reality. :thmbsp:

Ok, you're right...pics are necessary in a thread like this. After dinner I shall do it. I did not replace the velum, BTW. It still looks even, vivid and way better than the lamps. And the idea that I won't have to go back in every six months to replace a lamp is AOK by me!
Yup. He's a good guy. Speedy deliver, fair price. Thorough instructions. What more can you ask?

Jan, your receiver looks superb. I understand that you don't like LED's, and appearance wise, there is certainly no need in your case. But you overlook something very important, especially with your 2325... Thad model in particular is notorious for having the plastic surrounding the lamps melt and deform from the heat generated by the original OEM incandescent fuse lamps. That reason alone is enough for most 2325 owners to switch to LED's, but to each his own. As long as you're okay with the risk, then you're golden. But frankly, I'm not seeing a whole lot of difference in your blue and my LED blue.

Yes, that's probably true. You maybe know, I had the whole unit converted to LED and I went back to normal lamps. Really did not like the look of the LED.

I decided that the unit run for 30 years and the plastic was not melted, so why will it in the future? Mine still has all the original 200mV lamps inside... so I am not really afraid of it.
Maybe, I am wrong but I had the feeling that the transformer was getting hotter with the LED than with the normal lamps. I was more afraid about this...

Yes, the difference is quite unvisible in the photos. In reality its much warmer and more 70's like. Typical color of the 60's and 70's. You can see it in many Panton designs for example.

Give it a try in your next Marantz!!:thmbsp:

It sounds like your 2325 probably was never left on for hours and hours in warm ambient temps. Mine wasn't damaged either, so I expect the same. I've actually tried both bulbs and prefer the LED's with one exception... I think I might prefer the look of the OEM bulbs in the silver faced units. But in the black faced receivers, LED's (at least Don's) are SO much better than anything else, that it isn't even close.

And this IS a good representation of how my recently refurbed and sold 2525 looked with LED's. AMAZING.

Just the fact that they will never likely burn out is reason enough to love them. But their great looks seal the deal.
