Ice Cream Recipe

I found a "Cuisenart" counter top ice cream maker the other day on sale for 75% off. This is one of those things that has a freezer sleeve. Basically after your done with it, just wash it, and drop in the freezer and it is ready to go.

All you have to do is pull the sleeve out of the freezer, drop it in machine, insert paddle, place top on, flip the switch, pour in one quart of half and half, one can of sweetened condensed milk, 2 tablespoons of vanilla, and about 30 minutes later you have ice cream that is hard to stop eating until it is gone. This basically makes it really easy to eat way too much ice cream.

Anybody else use this recipe or do you have others?

I have the Krups version I think and it was not till the second year that I learned to just keep the freeze part in the freezer year around. I figured a day or two before using was enough to properly chill, I think I get better ice cream if it stays in the ice box year around. In fact I wash it with cold water plenty of soap to cut trough the milk fats and right back in the freezer. My recipe is the #2 recipe in the Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream and Dessert Book it has 25% butterfat which makes it rich and creamy but it's no egg, which means no cooking and its super quick.
2 C heavy or whipping cream
2/3 C half and half
3/4 C sugar (I use a Zucar a Mexican sugar much like Sugar in the Raw for better flavor)
Whisk the cream and sugar till mixed, add the 1/2 and 1/2 and blend together add flavor extras to this base then freeze! Easy as pie!
I make my own vanilla extract (beans and rum) and add vanilla pulp for outrageous homemade vanilla ice cream!

Basic Vanilla

This recipe goes back almost 100 years in my family -- can you tell they lived on a farm? Hand-cranked churn and ice from the ice house!

(I've made some modern substitutions for stuff I can't find any more)

Vanilla Ice Cream

4 Cups Sugar
8 Whole Eggs
1 Pt Half & Half
½ pt Whipping Cream
3 ½ Tbl spoons Vanilla
1 regular size can Eagle Brand condensed milk

Beat eggs well; Add sugar and beat well again; then add rest of ingredients and mix well; Pour to 2/3 top of container, adding milk to complete;

Makes 4 quarts

I've picked up 2 of those Cuisinart ones at junk stores in the last couple years- My twins used the first one to make some bacon/maple ice cream. I haven't tried it, even though I go through a fair amount of ice cream. I gave the 2nd one to one of the twins, and he uses it quite often.

Bingo! My wife uses an old family recipe that's about as old, and exactly the same.

Most people get a little squeamish when they find out it's made with raw eggs. Heck, that's what makes it REAL!!!:thmbsp:

You know, that doesn't look right...

recipe looks like a keeper, not sure about the quantity though

Just looked and our current 'lectric ice cream maker is a 4 quart machine. So it makes a gallon; using milk to fill to the 2/3 full mark on the can and the churning brings it up the rest of the way.

Damn, wish it would warm up here in the mid-Atlantic. Although, the coldest I think I've ever been was a 4th of July in downstate Illinois after eating a bunch of this ice cream and waiting for the fireworks... :)

PS: I'll also edit the original post

Toze there are not many people that like bacon or maple or ice cream more than I do, but that just can't be right, that they would end up in the same container.:D

.....Steve, there appears to be some confusion as to the number of quarts for the finished results....I have a 6 quart freezer....will I add milk to the well-mixed ingredients listed to bring it to 4 quarts, and then end-up with around 6 quarts of final product considering the mix "grows" while you're turning it?....would you use more of certain ingredients to end-up with 6 quarts of final product, and use less milk to bring it to 4 quarts before turning?....this recipe is bound to be wonderful, it's generally the recipe my family has used for ages.....

Ice cream does seem to grow. I put 1 and 1/2 quarts of ingredients in and it turns into 2 quarts of ice cream.

I put on a batch about 30 minutes ago, walked away and now it's ready. Loading the machine took less than 5 minutes. This is way to easy. Something that taste this good should not be this easy to get. I can tell this is going to be trouble.:para:

.....oops....no confusion.....

I have one of those Cuisinart ice cream makers too. With an extra freezer bowl. I've had it I guess 8 to 10 years. I make some killer home made eggnog every X-mas. Has alot of alkeehall in it. I'll load up the ice cream maker and it makes the best real thick egg nog shake. Can't figure out why it won't completly freeze.
