Ok ive gone and bought a Teac BX-500. My first vintage with vu- meters.
It looks cool, and apparently 100watts rms. It has heat sinks on the back, something ive never come across before. Is it a piece of ****, or is it an average
70s amp?

Play it and see. I was going to google it but you can do that. 100 Watts is good for most home applications so enjoy it until something better comes along. By the way that's how I got addicted:music:

Hello, volumeon12,

Great little find. It is a nice integrated amp from 74-77 and is rated at 55, not 100 watts. They also produced a black version, the BX-500B. Overall, it is a fine amp with simple build, and looks good. Now all you need to find is the matching TX-500 Tuner and a CX-210/310/350 Cassette Deck and you'll be set. BTW, all of these can be rack mounted if you find the handles for them.

I also have BX-500 that is in decent shape, but the original owner had replaced the power switch after it was damaged in a move. I have the original parts to reinstall the power button (same as muting), but just have not gotten around to it yet. I contemplated matching it to the other toggle switches, but then it would not be original.

I figured I would post up some pictures of it for everybody’s reference.

Again nice find and enjoy!

They were pretty good. The BX-500 and BX-300 were re-released as the BX-550 and BX-330. I got a BX-330 (35Wpc) and the sound is pretty clean and detailed not real strong in the bass department, but still pretty good. The BX-500 should sound fantastic and be plenty powerful.

Nice find, I would have grabbed it in a heartbeat.... definitely nothing wrong with 55 wpc....

For example here's the ratings on a few of my vintage integrateds..

Kenwood KA-7100 = 60 wpc
Akai AM-2600 = 60 wpc
Yamaha CA-610 = 40 wpc

All of these can easily rock the house!

The only bummer about these is how un interesting the inside is, so boring and looks like what you see in a lot of BPC. But I guess its the sound that is important, not how its innards look....

Have you given it a listen yet? What do you think? I went to buy the BX-550 not long ago but it went alot higher than I was willing to pay.

Nothing boring about that big toroidal transformer :) ... I am surprised actually that Teac went with such a nice transformer choice... you have to get pretty high up in Pioneer's lineup before you start seeing toroidal xformers ...cool....

Still waiting for snail mail to deliver it,will let you know.

Amp arrived today. Hooked her up to my spare Technics B210, and a pair of 120 watt
base reflex bookshelf speakers. Very nice warm sound, very happy with this purchase.
All functions are working, and amp is in great condition, cosmetically A1.
