Acoustic Energy fans???

cableguy

In Twang We Trust
I would post this in the Speakers forum but I am a-scairt that I won't get any discussion up there regarding these speakers....(Been , there, done that...)
Anyways I finally got my hands on a pair of Acoustic Energy Aegis One's today

These were my first really good speaker and I have been missing them from the day that I let them go some 7-8 years ago.
They are a truly amazing sounding pair of budget speakers that belie there size in their performance...They sound and play so much bigger that they appear...it's pretty cool actually and they can be found for a song nowadays.
I was just wondering if there are any other AE fans out there in TV land?

Well, it looks like just you and me friend. I'm a huge fan of acoustic energy speakers and have a pair of Aesprit 309s for my main stereo, a pair of 300s, a pair of 300c, and a 307 and a 308 for HT. I was impressed to say the least when I visited Raven HiFi in 03 looking for a Kef Center channel speaker. I left with all the above minus the 300s which I purchased later.

When I bought my B&K gear in 1988....they were auditioned using a pair of AE-1 speakers.
Made my jaw DROP.....which is probably the reason I bought the B&Ks.
I did not need new speakers at the time (had B&W DM-12 monitors) or I would have bought the AE-1s too!
In the early 2000s, I bought a pair of Phil Jones designed Platinum Audio PT-801 speakers (on Closeout at Audio Advisor for $199)......outrageously good for such little speakers!!
I heard Phil Jones (who goes through speaker companies, like Elizabeth Taylor goes through husbands) was designing Bass Guitar speakers now?
Man's a bloody genius in my book!!!

Steve

Dang Bill you are amassing a pretty impressive collection of monitor speakers.

How about a shoot-out?

Cool...I was hoping that some else had had a go with AE Speakers. That is quite a collection you have. Impressive....

I would really love to have a set of AE's . Never found a set used around here that I could afford...someday.

Phil Jones

I used to know Phil Jones, and yes, he is making guitar amps and heads now. He was trained as a bass musician before he started designing loudspeakers. Other monitors he has deisgned that are evolutions of the Acoustic Energy and Platinum models...

Boston Acoustics Lynnfield 300E
AAD 2001
AAD 7001i

The Soliloquy 5.0 and 6.0 are other noteworthy monitors designed by Phil, although they are far different in approach the the others previously mentioned.

You can see ervything Phil is up to these days at:

Thanks man...that is great...:thmbsp:

Many, many years ago, the original AE-1´s were a truly jaw-dropping experience to me.

Never heard the Aegis. Maybe it´s time I do.....

Lynnfields can be had for a song thanks to a Stereopile review.

Quite possibly the reviewer had his head up his arse when he auditioned them.

I just did a search of the usual suspects and did not find any....I'll have to earmark them for later...
(Like I need another pair of speakers...)

Front/back view. Note the lenses used on both drivers. The woofer had massive heat sinks cast into the aluminum basket, and was bolted as an assembly to the back of the cabinet.
