Picked up a Sansui TU-5500 tuner and a NAD CDP (model "5000"?) from the swap pile. Both seem to work reasonably properly. The TU-5500, which is missing a knob, has some background hum when playing a station, but it's not audible when the interstation mute is active. This struck me as a bit odd, but I am still hopeful this is just a P/S cap issue. The NAD responded well to laser cleaning.
I left for others to give homes to a somewhat interesting looking Sherwood DD linear-tracking TT (never saw one quite like it; late-80's I'd guess, somewhat flimsy but not a bad looking arm, missing headshell), a Sony TC-250 2 head R to R and a Heath/Schlumberger SS oscilloscope. Even I have to draw the line somewhere!
Also picked up from the dump's scrap metal pile Saturday was a somewhat sad looking Pioneeer SX-650. To my surprise, it seems to be working fine! Controls aren't even terribly scratchy. Sad that someone was willing to consign this ol' puppy to a landfill...
I can post a photo if anyone's interested.
