Karma shined on me....

A few days ago I answered a CL ad in a town about 15 miles away from me and I cant contain myself any longer(I cant seem to get pics to load) and wanted to share with all. The ad said the gent had some old equipment that he had purchased in Germany while he was in the military and was looking to clear up some storage space. I was the first responder to the ad and he said to come by and check it out. He wasn't sure of what all he had but he seemed to remember some of it was Pioneer and it all worked when it was put away some years ago. I figured for $10 gas and a couple of hours of my time that I would check it out. I called him and he said he would have it set out by the time I got there so that I could see what he had. I was greeted by the gent and his very large and playful Doberman and we chatted about gear and the old days and then he invited me in to check everything out. Well I couldn't believe what these old eyes gazed upon...

Pioneer SX-5580..the black and silver face shining in the light and I have never seen one of these in person. Quite a sight. In nice shape with a few small nicks on the cover and face but nothing distracting..

Sansui SR-636 TT..small nicks on dustcover but the black lacquer nice and shiny..

Technics CS-614 cassette deck..very nice and with the black face and silver knobs to boot..

DBX 118 sound enhancer...in mint condition, not a mark on it..

JVC SEA 10 equalizer...nice shape with small loss of 2 lines on the 15000 kz slider..

and last but not least a Pioneer RH-65 8-track unit that is in nice shape, does show some use but not too bad..

All power up and what I could check seemed to work just fine. I am not quite sure how to incorporate the DBX and the JVC into the sonic equation(I am still new to this and there are no manuals) and will ask for advice on how to get them into the system. I told him that I would take them and I think he liked me,(I know that his dog disguised as a small horse did cause it wouldn't stop jumping and wagging his stumpy tail unless I petted him and since I have a soft spot for Dobies, I obliged) cause he came down on his asking price because he was sure that I would give his old friends a good home and he was more concerned about clearing up some space then making any money so he let me have all this for................

$25.00:banana:

Karma did indeed shine on me...

BHD

pics will be added as soon as I get some help from the 14 year old cousin...it sucks being such a technophobe...

Nice score! I looped my equilizer through my adaptor/tape 2 line in my amp. Does the pioneer have an in/out loop, or a second tape in/rec out loop?

Both the SX-5580 and my good ol SX-950 have 2 tape in out selectors but I'm not sure how to loop the DBX or the JVC into system and use them as they are designed to be used.:scratch2:

Whoa! What a score! Congrats!

And I know others have done it to but I want to do it too but :worthless.

incredible... just incredible!!! I dream of these types of finds... which do not happen often. I am glad these found a good home. :yippy:

That is some very nice gear you have there!

Now, how does it all sound? Have you powered the gear up yet?

You can hook up the EQ into the adapter circuit on the BlackSilver Pioneer. Then you can hook up the 118 into the EQ tape monitor function. Defeat the EQ to use just the 118 and turn the EQ tape monitor off to use just the EQ. Turn the adapter off to use the 5580 with the EQ and the 118 out of the circuit.

Nice pickup! Those are some sweet pieces and from what I can gleen on the web that SX-5500 is a kin to the SX-1050 but the SX-5500 is rated at 120 watts per channel. :thmbsp:

Take his advice, it works for me, too. I like that Pioneer. Nice for a change.
