1st gen PARADIGM TITAN...two different enclosures?

ODYOFAEL

The Voice of Vintage HiFi
I recently purchased a pair of Paradigm TITAN enclosures from ebay and was surprised with what I saw. They are not the same with the pair that I have. The regular TITAN enclosures are slightly taller than the Performance Series TITAN. The bad part was, I've already disassembled one of my speakers and was going to transfer the internals into the new box. The only part that would fit was the tweeter, the woofer mounts are not the same. Another difference was that Performance Series box has a larger diameter cutout compared to what I have, which are the not the Performance Series. It really sucks. Now it's either I look for a pair of Perf Series TITANs that are beat up from the outside, or find internals here or on ebay or just sell the boxes. Any suggestions where I can find the internals for the Perf Series TITANs?

The performance titan...what size are the drivers? I think mine are atoms?? Woofer is a 8 inch +

And what parts do you need?

send a PM

I had same issue! Yes, both are different version 1s. One is a stamped woofer, the other cast. Different size cabinets. Never did check if the crossover was the same. I don't understand what you are trying to do here. Why not restore both sets, they look fine. The surround on the woofer you have in your photo looks a bit oversized (the roll). I might have a single performance series box and woofer, but that's it.

The woofers are 6 1/2 . I'm pretty sure the crossovers are different so I'm gonna be needing those too, tweeters?...I hace to consult PARADIGM.

Lukiedog,

I also have a single Performance Series Titan. I've not opened it up. Do you know which models have the cast frames vs the stamped?

I believe the smaller, earlier version 1 has the stamped frame. The larger one is cast aluminum. The cone appears to be identical in material (plastic) and size, as I used the same foam on both. They are apparently the same driver with the exception of the frame. They sound identical to me. My "Reference Series" were converted to simply "Paradigm" thanks to a request to Paradigm for replacement logos; they sent them to me just for asking. The tweeter is the Vifa D19TD-02. I can't for the life of me remember how or where I got this lone Titan...

If the first version has a larger driver and is cast aluminum, then why does the Performance Series have a larger undercut for the driver? Or does this mean the Performnce Series TITANs use the stamped frame? Please check photos. NOTE: I've olready re-foamed the driver with a replacement foam.

I just noticed that your larger unit is different than mine. I believe what makes these v.1 is the use of the Vifa tweeter--Paradigm having later gone to a different tweeter altogether and a plastic molded back for v.2. My larger one also uses the Vifa tweeter, but has a rather rounded front edge. That would make 3 different cabinets for the Titan v.1. The price on these on eBay have declined, with most selling under $100. You used to get these for about $125. A tremendous value for under $100, I can't think of any other speaker that delivers so much at that price in this nice size.

I just bought a really beat up pair of these in the wood color for $20, but I think I got ripped off. The tweeter is fried in one, and the cabs are totally shot. They have holes drilled right into the tops of the cabs from some genius mounting scheme. I think the woofs sounded fine, and the one tweet seems fine, but I am wondering if I should toss these things, or replace the tweeter, patch the holes, and hope for the best.... any suggestions...are these crap in the first place...thanks!

Try to look around foe a used VIFA tweeter, I know some of the guys here have a one. I have two extra cabs in very good condition. PM me. Are yours the short cabinets...stamped steel woofer chassis?

Nice! Thanks so much. I am getting excited about fixing these up, these are my first set of speakers that are from a reputable brand. Speakers are so expensive, that I have never owned anything better than Technics particle board speakers that were given to me free. I picked up a Denon avr-3000 for a song at the local pawn shop that I hope to pair with the Titans some day. thanks!
