Marantz 150 Tuner Scope

nitrous

96 dB freak!
Anyone familiar with the oscilloscope functions that are available on the Marantz Model 150 Tuner?
I assume that the operations one can do are limited, no? I searched Google and came up empty
regarding any technical info. Anyone radio ppl or hams here have any experience with this 150 scope?
I'm dying to know (thinking of picking up and playing with a 150, if it's worth it.)

The Marantz scope shows signal strength and centering at the same time. The next function is multipath which is used for orienting your antenna. It will also show any high level stereo input in a X-Y pattern where one channel is horizontal and one vertical. When the signal is in perfect balance it will be at 45 degrees. This is usefull also for setting anti skate levels on a turntable if you have a test record.

thanks Ron- have you had hands-on experience with this type of "Marantz" scope? I didn't know about the practical application of setting up tt anti-skating- that's pretty neat.
I'm a member of the FMtuners group. They have a great deal of info, but nothing on the scope applications.

You can use the scope for many uses such as audio output, TT setup, Station tuning and more.

AK member PunkerX is the one to talk to since he uses Marantz tuners with scopes.

Nitrous,

I sold the Marantz 150 back in the 70s and owned a 120b. I currently have a 10b in the collection which works the same way.

10b!! Very nice. Would you know off hand if the scope used in the 150, 120/ 120B and 10B are all the same size tube? I only have solid state tuners
(at this time): McIntosh MR74, MR73, Pioneer rcvr SX1250. How would you compare the sound of the 150 to the MR 74? What's your take on the 150 vs 10b?

The 10B uses a Tungsram DG7/32 wich are still avaleble today!
I can't say which types are used in the 120(b) and 150.

In the 2110 and 2130 are used the Hitachi 50TB31 wich are not in the program for some time so be carefull with that!!!

The tubes used are of good quality and wil go quit long but if they have a burned spot let it go unless you have a replacement ofcourse.

If you ever have a scope tuner you will be hooked:D

Nitrous,

I have the 10b, MR78, Fish 1000, and current MR85 for tuners. The MR78 gets the most stations, 42 with the MR85 tied with the 10b at 40 and the Fisher at 38. Each tuner has a different sound, the Fisher is the brightest, the MR85 is between the 78 and the 10b. The 10b is the most seductive and throws the biggest, smoothest soundstage. The 10B is my favorite at this time but they are all good.

never seen :scratch2:

The Model 19 also has a scope tube. It also shows multipath as a flat line with deviations for multipath, or not, and the IF response slope as well. Stereo, mono and phase are also available

The best display is the Sequerra tuner with a larger scope and a spectral display of adjacent stations.
