SR-303 Restoration

xoaphexox

Supernatural Anesthetist
Continuing the restoration of several Pioneer pieces. Tonight I finished the SR-303.

1. Replaced electrolytic capacitors with Elna Silmic II / Nichicon Muse FG / Panasonic FC/FM
2. Replaced mylar caps with 1% or 2% polypropylene Panasonic ECQ-P(Z)
3. Replaced fusistors
4. Replaced stock op amps with (gold socketed) Burr Brown OPA2134
5. Reflowed every solder joint
6. Stripped and cleaned chassis with ammonia free windex and Mother's chrome polish
7. Deoxited controls
8. Replaced power supply transistors with beefier ones
9. Replaced all eight 8v incandescent lights for the display
10. Calibrated the unit with the 150mV 400Hz input tone and 20,000khz internal drive unit (used my PC as the signal gen and my Tetronix scope)

I will probably keep the input hooked up for the light display but doubt I will really use the reverb effect for anything.

Next on deck: either the SPEC-1 or SPEC-4

8v incandescent lights ,but dont' know where to buy them ,and little scare to open the light housing box .

Don

I run mine the same way as a light display only. Just no need to add reverb in my room.

There is a white plastic bracket on each side of the lamp housing. There is a little tab at the back end that stops them from sliding backwards off the black housing. If you use a screwdriver (I used an awl) you can pop the little tabs out enough and the whole side (PCB and white plastic clip) slides right off!
