Advent 300 with vinyl and cornscalas.

I had a problem with a phono step up and I took it out of service to repair. Since I do not have time to get to it until after the holidays I decided to hook up an advent 300 receiver that I got from an local audio technician this past summer. I plugged in the the cd and phono and hooked it up to my cornscalas. I expected to miss my tubes. I was amazed at the broad spectrum quality of the sound from this refurbished receiver. I especially noted the quality of the phono stage and the tuner. I am posting this in the klipsch area because I do not think this receiver has enough power to push most speakers but it has more than enough for high efficiency speakers. The bass was well controlled and the staging was better than my tube amp. I do notice that the midrange is not quite as rich sounding as tubes but not far off. I paid $200 for this almost perfect piece. If anyone ever sees one for sale do not hesitate to pick it up.

I'm not all that suprised. I run my Cornwalls on SS power and they sound great. Tubes sound great as well, it's really just a personal preference.

I have two 300's and can attest to it's sound quality. I have used one as a phonostage and tuner for a couple of years now.

I've read nothing but fantastic reviews of the preamp side of these units, particularly the phono stage. The amp side is what? 15 watts?
Very excited - I'll be picking up a minty one soon for $85. They show up fairly regularly on ebay for $100 - $150.

What you says is true, they don't have enough power. However, my own experiences are that they work well with a pair of Large Advents. A coincidence?

The 300 pre-amp and phono stage are quite good. I've been considering using them in front of my MC-30s and K-Horns. Currently the 300 and the MC30s need attention. A winter project (hopefully).
