Identify this Garrard?

Searching Google, etc., didn't do much good, so I'm turning to the AK brain trust.

This is part of a big 'ole Curtis Mathes from the early 60's ('63?). Ceramic for sure, with a fairly lightweight tonearm. Says "Laboratory Series" on the spindle.

Here's the only matching photo I could find; this guy's photobucket claims it's an AT5, but I can't hardly find any other "AT5" info to confirm.

If you can identify it, is it worth using? The tracking weight is significantly less than every other turntable I've seen from the same period, but it's not the dustbunny weight I've gotten my PL-400 (with an Audio Technica 8008 cartridge).

Thanks!

If it ain´t this one , I don´t know what it could possibly be.

He does say, however "Garrard AT5 - I excellent condition, it was also badged as the model 3000."

I have one of these in a Suitecase portable phonograph sold under the Singer label, but actually the well known KLH portable. I think the tone-arm was probably available to OEM's who would sell complete units with factory installed cartridge, as it did not have the detachable head shell that the component tables had. It is probably just a less expensive version of one of the entry level tables sold.

The AT5-LM looks like that from the top, but so does the 3000. The AT5 should have a 4 pole motor, while the 3000 has a 2 pole motor.

garrard

looks to me like the sort of garrard turntables fitted to stereo radiograms in the early 60's with ceramic cartridges, they were one up from BSR turntables, which I remember having one and getting an electric shock off it every time I touched it!

You have a Garrard AT-5 LM (fixed headshell version) which was sold to consumer electronics manufacturers for fitting in radiogram consoles and stereo compacts. Singer, KLH, GE, HH Scott, Curtis Mathes, and others used them in some models. Yours appears to have a ceramic turnover cartridge installed. :tresbon:
