i arrived at central station in downtown orlando yesterday at 10:17 am after a 3 hour train ride up from west palm beach. my dad picked me up and we went to my old garage where all my old gear was. apon arrival i was a little concerned about the condition of my gear after it sat in a damp humid hot garage with no climate control unprotected from the elements for the last 10 years. as i opened the sqeaky cob webbed sliding door my heart was beating as fast as it could of fear of the unknown horrors that may have destroyed my equipment, the first thing that met my eyes was the first looming tower of old pioneer receivers stacked 15 high on top of my old magnavox concert grand stereo console. everything was coted in a thick layer of dirt, cobwebs and mold. the magnavox console was sadley infested with termites and was buckeling under the weight of all the receivers. looks like i got there just in time! if that console had collapsed all those receivers would have tumbled down crushing the dual monoblock tube amps inside the concert grand witch would have been a tragity! accept from a few of the consoles most of my receivers were still in suprisingly good condition aside from the dust, dirt, and mud-dobber wasp nests all over everything. it was all still there! my old workshop, equipment, records etc. after killing about 50 angry wasps i began moving my receivers out to the driveway to be loaded into the van. me and my dad loaded about 50 old stereo receivers into his van. its all that could fit!
and drove back to west palm. now i begin the staggering task of restoring them all. i got two done today! :music:

Holy crap! That's a load of gear! I'd be restoring that Concert Grand, those are sweet consoles, awesome amps inside.

Wow man, that is a very superb collection. Tell ya what, if you run out of room, I'm in Tampa, Fl and I'd be happy to store some stuff for you. I'll even store the lower end stuff, no worries. ;) haha

i read the post you made the other night and am glad you did a follow up....hope things are going good for ya...that is one pile of gear man!!!!!....good luck and have fun

Memorey Lane for sure

what a kick for ya. If you want to unload a nice 50w receiver let me know :D. Loads of silver in there. Given the humidty and bugs were you surprised that everything didn't just rust away, because you know................... rust never sleeps.

I just wonder why you didn't even think to wrap anything in sheets or something. Anything to protect it from some of the dust.

Given the storage conditions that collection is quite remarkable. And indeed an ambitious task given the number of units you're planning to restore.

Storing anything in FL must be a challenge. If one wraps something in order to keep out excrement from mice or birds, or the daubings of wasps, etc, the fungus that prevails down there still has a field day.

I remember as a kid when we lived in Pasco Cty north of Tampa the annual event of pulling out the bed in the master bedroom and cleaning the fungus that grew on the back of the headboard and the wall behind it. Gross.

I sense a "Receiver Dump" , the good kind, coming up in the Barter Town section in the future.

Those Solid State Fisher receivers can be hell to restore since they're packed very tightly, but they're worth the effort IME. Nice stuff there!

I also did time at the Main Detention Center on Gun Club Road. A double-nickle is a long time to be away from your gear. Glad you are out. My cheating old lady sold all my stuff.....
