The 2240 I picked up.

I picked this up off CL. It turns out it was from an AK member.

Any way, it had a few issues. One being, only 3 of the 16 lamps were working.

So, I have cleaned it up, replaced every lamp, recapped the power supply board, and pulled the outputs to re-grease them.

Very nice looking unit. Don't hear to much about the 2240, congrats.

Question: What does "pulled the outputs to re-grease them" mean?

I can't recall ever hearing that statement before. My initial thought is it is something similiar to "muffler bearings" or "blinker fluid", but thought I would ask. YD

Ah! Something simple, just did not make the mental connection. Not enough coffee this morning Thanks YD

So lets recap your last 24 hours Rob. You pickup a nice 2240 off of CL, which looks great BTW.

And then, your daughters boyfriend comes over and hands you a beautiful Sansui 661.

Yea, I think you had a good audio day, congratulations. :thmbsp:

Well, I picked up the Marantz last weekend. I ordered the lamps and caps and they all came in yesterday.

The 661 arrived yesterday. So it was more like a good audio week.

I too have not heard much about the 2240. The Classic Audio site doesn't list the Rarity. I think it must be somewhat common, as a few have recently sold on E-bay.

It has a nice build, looks nice, and sounds good.

With the few Marantz receivers that I've had the pleasure of owning, I will echo your "nice build" statement. Receivers of this type were in the era when build quality was taken seriously.

That looks really sweet, excellent job, can't beat the look!! :thmbsp: Did you change the vellum to get the nice blue?? :scratch2:

I think I'm going to add a section to my web site with pictures of re-lamped receivers, your 2240 would look really nice there!!

Thanks.

I did not change the vellum. In fact, when I had the lamp assembly apart to replace the lamps (I do not go through the front unless the vellum needs replacing) I shined a light in toward the dial, and all I saw was blue scale.
I did not see any vellum. Even the meters are not wrapped in vellum.

Since the first post I have replaced the caps on the amp boards and set DC off-set and bias.

Pics of re-lamped receivers would be a nice addition to your site.

Wait a sec . . . an AK member sold you a Marantz with burnt bulbs!? Identify the scoundrel! :D
