Dynaco A25 Cabinet Differences?

I understand that early A25s had the port on the tweeter side, while later A25s had the port on the woofer side. This change, I think, corresponded to a simultaneous change in driver manufacturers.

Is there any reason that one cabinet style must be used with the corresponding drivers? In particular, is it possible to use the early style cabinet with the later style drivers? Is there any downside to such a pairing?

Thanks!

not really - the manufacturer didn't change. From 1970 also ScanSpeak manufactured for Dynaco. Cabinets w/vent above were made both, with SEAS and Scanspeak drivers. Scanspeak was founded 1970. A25 were sold since 1968 w/SEAS. Scanspeak and SEAS drivers are very similar, Scanspeak was founded by ex-SEAS engineers.

Thanks. Do you know the reason for the change of the port location? Perhaps just to be more conventional?

nope. I just know they built them from '68 til '70 or '71 this way. From '70 also ScanSpeak manufactured. I don't even know if above and beneath vented cabinets weren't built parallel.
I have a pair SEAS w/vent above, a friend has ScanSpeak. In some places is told, vent above +scanspeak would be "early", but due to scanSpeak was founded more than 2 years after A25 was introduced I doubt this.
