I just finished replacing a power cap in a Lafayette LR-1000A receiver with a snap in capacitor. It works fine but I think there must be a better way to handle the wires that I soldered on to it. I believe there were five wires to attach to the capacitor, two of which were a much heavier gauge than the normal wires in a receiver. I ended up finding room for all five, but just barely because of the much smaller size of the tabs on the snap-in caps.
I thought of just cutting off the lead from the old cap with the wires still attached and soldering the old tab onto the lead of the new cap. I know that wouldn't be a very elegant solution, but it seems like it would work. Is there a better way to handle that situation? Do people fabricate longer tabs and solder them to the snap-in tabs? If so, what do they use?
