Pioneer PL-560 from GW

Picked up a Pioneer PL-560 with a Shure V-15 Type III cartridge & stylus. Looks like it needs the rubber feet & some plastic polish for the dust cover. But other than that, everything else seems to work & the table seems to be in good shape. I know there's a polish to buff the scratches out of plastic. What do you guys recommend? Also anyone know of sources for the rubber feet? Thanks for any info.

I hit this one at opening time everyday. But I only pull a gem out of there once in a "blue moon". Most of the time it's some occasional decent vinyl, a good CD or 2 & once in a while a partial stack of blank CD's. I get some decent shirts & pants on occasion too. It's a matter of being at the right place at the right time with thifts since they re-stock all day long. I've been there twice a day, going back just before closing & found stuff on both trips.

If I'm not mistaken... SL1200 feet will fit well on this deck. Maybe someone who added 'audiophile' feet to their 1200 will sell you their stock ones.

BTW-- I owned that deck for years! Served me well then I gifted it to a friend. Still going strong.

Nice score. The GW gods smiled o me too. It's where I found mine.

For polishing the dust cover there are two things I'd recommend. There is a three step product called Novus plastic polish which comes in two grades of abrasive, coarse and fine, and then a polish/wax. It works very well but I've had equal success using Brasso metal polish followed by the Novus wax.

You're going to have to get creative on the feet. Mine were included although deteriorated. I glued them back together and they work fine.

Thanks for the info...........

Another thing I just discovered ................. the dust cover from my PL-510 fits this TT. I still need some plastic polish for both of them though.

I need some of this 3 stage plastic polish as well for my SL-1700.....its annoyingly scuffed.......

The one off the 560 is pretty bad, almost like something melted rings into it, the one off the 510 I've had since the '70's, but is in far better shape, with minor scratches only.

My feet are completely missing .............. I don't even know what they look like since I haven't seen a decent pic of them.

Be careful!

Mine asexually reproduced and now I have two...scared to think about what will happen next!

Its a great table, I have a GRADO red on it (them, one old one new) with no hum, couldn't be happier. Enjoy that vinyl!!!

I figured this was a good deal at $15 ............ then I got it home & popped the headshell off to discover the double-bonus of the Shure V-15 Type III cart & stylus that looks new.

Damn, son, that's a score and a half! I paid 20 for mine with no cartridge and thought I had scored. Still do. Getting one for 15 with a V15 is pretty freaking amazing.

Feet can be dealt with. In another recent thread about a PL-560 the OP provided this link to some very serious suspended feet. WAY too rich for my blood but pretty cool.

The original feet look a lot like black spray paint can lids (but with a hole in it). Inside each foot and bonded to it was a cylindrical rubber tube with one closed end. Inside the tube was the suspension spring. A screw with washer pierced the closed end of the tube and screwed into the corners of the "pan" for the turntable.

What happened over time was that the rubber dry rotted and the feet fell off, usually getting lost or tossed. It's a pretty good design except for the failure of the rubber.

I have this same TT I got off of CL. I have been searching for a set of feet as well, mine were missing too. I imagine it can't be too hard to make a set, could be a great DIY project to document. :scratch2:

That's my thinking too .......... unless I can find someone that's got a set leftover after they've upgraded like Frank mentioned earlier.

Oh ............... I'd say that $20 for the table alone is a damn good deal. I was just totally floored to find the V-15 Type III when I got home. I have the same cart on my PL-510 that I paid $150 for back in the 70's. I believe that TT was $200.

I wanted to chime in here regarding the question of replacement feet for the PL-560. I acquired one of these tables over the weekend at a rummage sale (and let me just say that was $2 well spent), completely intact and fully functioning except for the four missing feet. I ended up using raquetballs cut to fit and then screwed into place using the original screws and rubber washers. It looks ghetto as hell, but damn if it doesn't work perfectly. And what a nice looking and sounding table!
