Some recently-acquired Scott components for rebuilding: LT-110 tuner (kit equivalent of the 350B), 130 preamp, LC-21 preamp (the 130's kit cousin), LK-150 amp (Scott's biggest and baddest stereo amp).

I have enough parts to build one preamp - the 130 is more sophisticated with the independent level controls for each input and a main level control for the output. On the other hand, I've heard that the LC-21 is better due to the simplified circuit. Cosmetically, the screen printing on the 130 is much better. However, there is some allure to having a complete ScottKit set. Any suggestions on which preamp to build? I'm going to have to track down a faceplate either way.

The backplate for the control panel currently sitting on the 130 belongs to the LC-21.

What's the purpose of the four lights on the 130?

Anyone have a clue what was attached to the back of the LK-150? The pattern of holes has four mounting holes in a square, then two larger and two smaller holes on opposite diagonals in a squished diamond pattern.

On the back , the diamond pattern holes once apon a time had a TO3 transistor mounted on them and the square was for the heatsink. Must have wanted to regulate the the bias voltage of B+

I see those power outlets I hate, they break all too easily. The plastic between the chassis and the power plug's pins cracks off too easily, leaving a potentially hazardous power plug pin to chassis contact and or short.... :thumbsdn: Don't ask how I found out... :nono:

Interesting notion...maybe I should put that back. :scratch2:

The level adjustment is a nice feature, but given the output level adjustments on the back of the tuner (at least I think I saw some there) and the nature of more modern sources such as cd players and other digital sources, do you really need them? I haven't felt the lack of level balancing in my set up despite a modest progression of tape and tuner changes over the years. I've used the same preamp in the system since the mid 70's.

That one does have the power transformer however. If that power tranny van be used for the simpler preamp I would do the simple one, less to restore and less stuff in the signal path.

I do envy you that power amp though.

Good Luck

The transformer should be the same, the 130 has one more tube than the LC-21 - not enough to really make a difference. Incidentally, the LC-21 might have a bit more drive than the 130 - all of the LC-21's tubes are 12AX7s. The 130 uses two 12AU7s, and one of it's 12AX7s does nothing but drive the center channel out. The LC-21's center channel out is just a summed "vampire" connection on the two main channels.

I do envy you that power amp though.

I bet you don't when I have to pick it up and move the sucker. Heavy and unbalanced, to say the least.

You can still buy those convienece outlets at Nebraska Surplus. They look pretty good in there all shiny and not broken. I think there a dollar each.

Still haven't found a replacement meter for the LK-150. I'm not even sure what mA range it should display.

I finally got the LT-110 fired up tonight. An AKer hooked me up with a chocolate brown tuner knob some time back, and I bought a dead LT-10 for the vernier dial and some other fiddly bits. Whatever that non-Scott PT is, it seems to be pretty close to the right specs. Even without a shield over the one 6AU6 that wants one, a 6U8 in place of the 6BL8, and an oddball mix of whatever tubes were handy tossed into place (outside of the Scott-labeled tubes on the tuning cap chassis), and nothing more than some speaker wire attached as an antenna, it sounds damned good...

Can you tell me the output transformer numbers, I can just barely read them from the pics, but not well enough.
Any progress?

The 130 is a great sounding pre. I was given one years ago. I still have to finish the restoration but haven’t had the time, I’m about 75 percent there. The 4 lights are just for looking cool, they serve no real purpose. I think the 130 in its wood case is one of the best looking pres from that era.

The second line would seem to translate to "Stancor, 26th week of 1961."

im running my LC 21 in my 1st system now with my Fisher 50a mono amp and its a great preamp.Ive recently purchased a LK-150 and a LT 110b tuner as well .The tuner is at my techs any he just informed me its ready and sounding very good, the sensitivity surprised him,he will be purchaseing one soon.
As soon as the LK -150 arrives it going in for a full recap and some tweeks.
Looking forward to fireing this complete system up when done
