Here is one of the near finished redeveloped Infinity Kappa 8s that I have been working on. I am waiting for the outriggers to be completed for the base. It was alot of work but I am happy with the end result. VERY HAPPY.

What was done.

changed out all the drivers. reworked the crossovers for the new drivers. Grills I custom made with elastic cords.

I have to ask, only in jest, do they vibrate in harmony (the grills)?

The picture looks great! That is excellent work.

WOW another "breed" of the Kapa...a man after my own heart- (see avatar)

They look very nice, I "Econowaved" mine 9's and could not be happier with the looks or the sound!! They make excellent platforms for modifications. I got my original cabs for $10, with no drivers but did have dead xovers, wich I stripped down for loads of $$$ inductors. These now replace the ALtec 19's I once had.

What drivers you have in yours? Again- you did a great job, love those grills . I need to copy your design there!

Could you tell us what drivers you used, maybe show us your crossover schematic? Is that an ATC SM-75 mid driver. Nice ribbon tweeters! Looks like a very large undertaking, how long did it take you?

Very nice work.

With the change in xover, do they still go below 2 ohms?

After seeing these mods, I regret ditching the pair I had, containing the fragile, brittle Polydomes.
Thanks.

Wow!! Looks amazing. How do they sound? Do you mind sharing what kind of stain and color you used to match the additional cab parts? I'm doing an audiostand in oak and need a good matching stain.

Bdaley6509 - I used MINWAX Wood Finish "Golden Oak" 210B and ZINSSEER Shellac "Amber". Its a perfect match. Also, THEY SOUND ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. So far I've spent about 1100 retail on each speaker without the outriggers that are being made now. I find that if I were to buy something comparable on todays market it would cost insane amounts of money. All it took was a few extra bucks, ingenuity and determination.

Thanks for the response. I found your previous thread introducing your project so I've got the info I wanted. It was those voice coil wires that are visible on the front of the midrange that through me off as to it's maker. Hey are the Morels the new carbon fiber models? Just curious, I'll check it out. I was very curious about those drivers they seem awesome. I've used Morels stuff before and have always been impressed. Fell in love with the MDT33 triple magnet tweeter back in about 1997. I built that Poly Natalia loudspeaker designed by Dick Olsher.

Ignore my last question, I just looked it up and they are the new carbon fiber models. Don't know where I saw voice coil wires, guess it's an illusion. Please post your impressions of their sound. Those are some pretty expensive mids, have you had any modeling done to contour and integrate the crossovers?

shawnra - The Morel carbons went back to PE as they were more than what I wanted to pay after receiving them and realizing they were not in my budget @ the moment. Dont get me wrong they are amazing, both sonics and cosmetics. Anyhow, I put the Morel 585 Mids back in (you're not seeing things) and awaiting the arrival on this Tuesday -- Tang Band W6-1914S to replace -- PE has them for 131 at the moment. Therefore I shall give the TGs a try and see how they sound - not too sure on the cosmetics, hoping I can remove the grills from them. And if they dont work out I will go back and reorder the 634s again - I will just wont be able to eat for a few weeks. LOL.

Hey I know all about scrimping and saving for audio. I don't have a big budget and still manage to put some away each month to complete my system. My speakers are almost complete and I've got about 5 more months of saving up before I can listen to them because I don't have any other electronics. Oh well Eh! It will all be worth it and incredibly dear to me when I have it complete and playing music.

Mooger - They are twice the tweeter than the original EMIT K in build quality and sound. I highly suggest them.

Tang Band W6-1914S arrived today - way too big. Specs on PE vs the real specs are off - oh IDK an INCH. So tomorrow they go back for the next size down. BTW - I was concerned about the cosmetics of these not looking so great on PE website - they are AMAZING. The pictures do not do them justice.
