Cassette score at the Thrift

aabottom

Swing
I made a big score at the Thrift last week. I walked into my local thrift and found one home recorded tape and one of the Napa Valley Box Co. wooden 100 cassette holders (and 50 cassette holder too). The 100 was kinda beat up, but repairable. I took them to counter, and offered $4 & $2 for the holders. Luckily, it's half off everything plus 10% off Monday.

As I completed the transaction, the manager asked me if I wanted the garbage bag full of cassettes that "were" in the holders. Duh-a, YES. She said that she was told that they weren't worth much, but there were about 100 cassettes in the bag. Hefting the bag, without looking in it, I offered $2 for the garbage bag full of cassettes. I got the whole package for $2.70.

I told the manager that I’ll consider any cassettes and gave her my card, and took my booty home. She calls later that afternoon to tell me that they have one more Napa Valley Box Co. wooden 100 cassette holder and another garbage bag full of cassettes and said I could have them for free. I pick them up the next day and give them another $5.

At home, I spent hours previewing, sorting, and sampling, my treasure chest. Most of the music is new to me but still within my gendres: Moody Blues, Pat Benetar, REM, Elton John, Windham Hill. See ya later. I got some listening to do.

So here’s the tally for $7.70.

See, it's stories like this that makes me have the need to go to these thrift stores and GW's. I have yet to do so.

That's pretty good, but I think I've got ya beat! Yesterday I popped into my local Goodwill store and found a pair of perfect original large Advent loudspeakers, 1976 stamped on the tweeters, with everything intact. I ran to the register with them, and paid a whopping $14.97 for the pair!!!!! I love days like that!

Not all GWs are created equal. The one by my house has had the same Realistic bookshelf cassette-tuner-eq combo for about a year. No real music to speak of. Just a bunch of old TVs.

I guess you'd be reluctant to tell us where your thrift is located?? I've never seen deals like THAT! SCROE!!!!!

Large Advents for $15!! PLEASE tell me they were vinyl, at least!!

Friggin' A

I finally saw a 100 count Napa valley at a thrift, but was told that it's" always been here ", to hold cassettes, which was BS. I'll try another person next time, but it's probably gone.

Great score! I haven't gotten back into tape REALLY. I guess I have picked up some tapes at garage sales and the like...

Yeah, the Salvation Army here is kinda like that. But even those are worth going into, I have gotten some scores there. I got my Boston Acoustic A40s at my SA for only 9 or 10 bucks. I am waiting for a nice Tape Deck to show up at the thrifts around here but so far the only ones I am seeing are BPC.

I see the vast number of tapes you got are from the 80's. Being into that brilliant decade myself I'm highly jealous, but happy for you:D

Yeah, keep the old cameras peeled for a tape deck! Most of them I have came from the local tip. One is bound to come along sooner or later. Hang in there and it will happen:thmbsp:

Great score of 80's music!
Thanks, I totally missed collecting 80's music, because I was out swing dancing "8 days a week".

Now I can see what I missed.

Prince Charming is still one of my favorites.
You have Little Robberies of the Motels double.
Thanks, I'll put that in the que. It looks like I two versions: Professionally Pre-recorded cassette and home recorded cassette with the Monkees Greatest hits on the filpside.
