Frank Sinatra's C-22

That's awesome. I have never seen this pic. I have always been a great fan of Frank. Interesting decor he has going on though. I wonder who has this C22 - I would pay the premium. Thanks for posting it because I never would have seen it.

It is interesting that it is a 3 channel stereo system.

The C-22 has a center-channel output - which is just a mix of left plus right - with a separate output trim control on top behind the face plate. I think in the early days of stereo, people liked a mono center speaker to fill in the stereo image.

Many of the finest, critically aclaimed audiophile beloved recordings, going back to the late 50s, were recorded in 3 channel stereo (mono with L and R for effect).

The recording system used 3 identical micrphones across the front and playback systems used 3 indentical full range speakers across the front. Sound familar, almost like a prosound theater system.

I believe Absolute Sound magazine back in the day an a series of articles highlight these early recording concepts used by the various record labels. As a Mac dealer I was intrigued by how many Mac amps were used in the process.

We might be finally going back to future in audio, not the movie as I believe many of these recordings have been re-released using the original multi track format.

Looks like a Fisher tuner to me. I'm not a Fisher "guy" so I can't eyeball the model.

Wow. You really learn something new everyday. I had no idea. This is an interesting concept, and would like to hear how it would have sounded.

I believe Rudy Van Gelder (RVG) recorded, in many cases, using three channels. If I'm not mistaken, some of his work is available on SACD in its three channel glory for those with surround sound capabilities.

Buy any of the following to hear old 3-channel:
1. Any Living Stereo Hybrid SACD - has CD layer, two-channel SACD layer and multichannel SACD that only uses the three fronts
2. Nat King Cole - The new releases on Hybrid SACD - same thing.
3. Mercury Living Presence SACDs

I have a box of old TAS and Stereophles from the late 80s, did a quick review and did not the article I remember showing all the early microphone techniques. More boxes to dig thru some other time. I seem to remember an interview with Wilma Fine. So while munching on my lunch I googled Wilma Cozart Fine Mercury and found a great writeup on the early history of Mecury reccordings.

The site is at Soundfountain.

The tuner looks like possibly a Fisher to me as well, I would guess R-202 or more than likely the TOTL FM-1000. I cannot blow the picture up clear enough to tell. I did a google serch and apparently the pic is from his house in Palm Springs, there are also pics of home recording equipment also installed at the house. Apparmtly for a tidy some that crib can be rently by the day or week, maybe someone could go on recon mission :D

From what I understand back in the day the Fisher tuners were regarded as the king. It appears he has the best of the sest there. Wonder what he was using for amplifiers, a interesting picture for sure.

Yea, if that's the Palm Springs house I read up on it years ago. Back when Palm Springs was neglected and in a general state of disrepair (in the '90s), some guy saw the house abandoned and thought the piano shaped swimming pool was interesting, and went to the real estate office and they said 'Oh that's Sinatra's old house and its for sale.' and he bought it for something like $150,000. Then it go sold once or twice, got restored, and now rents for a ridiculous sum. I remember reading that in the house there still were two old non-working turntables mounted.

At first glance, I thought that was a bowl full of cash.

On second thought, I think it's a bowl full of cigarettes!

"The speakers may be custom."

A friend mentioned that the speakers looked like Altec's. The center channel speaker shows a 15" outline on top so it might be something from the 604 family.

That picture has been endlessly dissected in the past, if anyone wants a positive ID on any equipment in there, the AK Google search will reveal all.

Nice picture of Frank Sinatra with his Hi-Fi gear. I once had C-22 with a pair of MC-30s; traded them in for a pair of ML-1Cs and some other worthless Mc electronics. Should have kept them.

Thanks, cool pic,When will a C22 be acquire? My office's friend,he is a local guy but US passport holder and his house in California, he invite me to US,once I am in US going to find a C22,I promise.Pray for and help me to find it yeah....an than going to make a new thread. Thanks.
