I just brought home a very nice SA-8800 this afternoon, and the schematic above does not correspond with the amp board at all. I wish it did, I opened it up and was all ready to make the adjustments!
Thanks for that; I need to make those adjustments to my SA-9800 and I printed that out for future reference. All I need now is a non-conducting probe/screwdriver.
The 8800 and 9800 are laid out quite differently inside, so the drawing on the right may not correspond, but the written directions still be useful -- Foe
I need some help now. I set the DC offset (which had been way to high) using the above directions with no problems. I then tried to set the idle current (which had been set with the amp power input set to 110v instead of 120v) and ran into problems. The directions say to adjust settings to 56mV and to 70mv, but I've moved all 4 pots around their full range and am getting no higher than 10mV. My meter is set to 200mV DC. I have no load, and the pre-out-main-in jumpers are pulled. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? -- Foe
Also, there's 1 power amp and 2 capacitors per channel in the 9500-II... (2 transformers and 4 capacitors) and big heat sinks... i think its a "bi-mono amp" or something like that... i don't know if it was the same for the 9500
The inside look of SA-8500II and SA-9500II is almost the same.
The inside look of SA-9500 and SA-9900 is almost the same.
From the 3 Amps SA-7800, SA-8800 and SA-9800, the SA-9800 was the only one with 2 seperate Power Transformator.
Inside SA-8800:
Interesting!
It looks like Pioneer keep on there traditions,
inside view of my 1992 model A-757 MKII (100W/8ohm RMS) i dont think its hard to see the mix betwin the above ones
Yes, the SA-9900 is big and heavy, but the Volume-knob is smaler
The backside switch is a Phono Interference Filter:
"This is used to attenuate radio-frequency interference from external electronic or electral appliances or products during record play.
When this switch is set to ON during record play with the cartridge load resistance switch is at 100OHM position, the sound volume will be reduced"
Here are the power boards, the ones in the service manual diagram above.
The big discovery I made while making the adjustments, are that the power boards in my SA-9800 are different. The one on the left has blue covers on the two cylinder capacitors (bottom front, next to the blue VR1 pot which is barely seen) and fewer white "risers" on the resistors; the one on the right has black covered caps next to VR2, and more of the white "risers" lifting resitors off the board. I'm guessing that one of the boards was replaced at one time -- Foe
