anyone running a yamaha px-3?

nissan guy

Just wondering how many of you guys are using yamaha px-3's in your sysytems? I really like mine now that i have had it serviced.

The only problem i have is all of the feet have rotted off.(big surprise.) What are you guys using for feet on this particular table?

Thanks.

:scratch2: I have a PX-3 and 1/2 maybe 1 PX-2 ..Not sure..:D

I figured you had at least one. LOL I am gonna order some sort of feet this week. Very good sounding table either way.

Anyone have any idea why i have to turn my kenwood kr-7400 up to halfway on the volume to get a resonable amount of volume with this table? Is there a problem with the phono section on it? Or is that just due to the type of cartridge?

Thanks

I think it is the nature of phono's period. I have to crank mine up also above what I would otherwise running FM or my cassette deck or aux.

I will look when I get home. I know its a Yamaha cart. The table is 100% functional after my local tech adjusted everything. It only needs feet. I am going to try it with the marantz and see if its any different. I didn't think I would have to crank it up that much. With CDs I only turn it up to 9 o clock to be as loud as 12 or 1 on the dial.

I am new to vinyl so it may just be me. I tried an autotechnica cart which seemed louder but that cart sounded like crap compared to the Yamaha cart.

I have a Yamaha PX-3/C-4/M-4 setup and have to dial it upwards of 12 usually.

I own a PX-3 and it is the best turntable in my stable by a long shot. Then again the Technics SL1200 isn't particularly poor with a denon HO moving coil in it... and the PX-3 came with a well regarded MC cart accoridng to my uncle who gifted it to me.

Mine has the mc-705 on it now. I agree it is a great table. I just need to get a pre amp with an adjustment for mm or mc phono now. Jut got my ocm-500 amp. More than enough power now.

Any good cheaper pre amps i should be on the lookout for? Not worried about brand too much just good features, sound and black in color. I am looking to spend 500 or less.

5 big ones nets you a nice vintage MC-able pre like the C-4 with almost enough left over for a Benz Micro ACE cart. :D Yes it's black and matches the PX-3.

Can't recommend a new pre.

I was disappointed with my px3 when I first got it...I thought I was unable to align the cart..turns out those real clear s sounds were overloading my pma...which was later discovered to have a bad phono stage *facepalm*. I built a quickie phono stage that would handle whatever I threw at it.

The thing is now a prime example of why linear tracking is superior. Outstanding clarity across the entire lp...smooth operation...and it looks bad-ass....push buttons and go!

Currently I'm running a Grado Green on mine and I've just costantly been surprised at how well this thing plays. Absolutely outstanding. Big thanks to the AKer who sold it to me and merrylander who let me pick it up. This guy knows Yamaha and I could probably pick his brain and converse with the guy for hours on end.

Currently...I'm thinking of picking up the $175 Ortofon HOMC and mounting it...or a really good MM cart with a line-contact stylus.

...now if only my ADAT did 96/24.

I recently acquired a PX-3 and as soon as the 72" entertainment cabinet gets here it will be setup alonngside the PX-2 and CR-3020, etc. The PX-3 will run a LOMC Audio Technica AT31e while the PX-2 still runs the HOMC Denon DL-160.

Low or low medium compliance cart seems to work best on these. That's not what most TTs seem to like so try a selection...wasn't that happy with the Ortophon 30 but YMMV. That cart was great on the Dual though. Haven't heard a Denon but they get great reviews.

LOL you guys are way over my head on the cart end of this. I am new to vinyl so i am not sure which type of cart my yamaha has as far as mm or mc. I am on the lookout for a good pre amp currently, then i may buy a cart or 2. As it is i only own 6 or 8 records. On a side note if anyone has any doubles of records they would like to sell to me for a resonable cost let me know. Mostly into rock, classic rock and metal i am now getting into classical and jazz a bit as well. I don't really care about the overall condition as long as the record plays well.

So far i have:
-jimi hendrix experience smash hits on reprise records in stereo
-led zeppelin on atlantic in stereo
-van morrison astral weeks on wb in stereo
-the rolling stones hot rocks 1964-1971 london in stereo
-the modern jazz quartet plays jazz classics on prestige in stereo

a few others i may be forgetting, but it is a small collection so far.

$500 or less for the pre? Yamaha CX1000 or C-4. I suspect the CX might be better with an MC cart. I don't have any MC carts to compare them.
