Any info on Vintage Pinnacle speakers

blurghy

These are 28 inches high and about 15 inches wide. They are 3 way with 10 inch woofers. The midrange is kinda weird and looks like half a small black tennis ball.
No marking or series number whatsoever. the wookers are a black shiny plastic like material. I know I may have overpaid for them but they are beautiful and outstanding sounding speakers. I paid 250 dollars for the pair. They are in excellent condition.
Any info would be appreciated. I will attach a photo tomorrow.

I can only see two Pinnacle models with the 10-inch woofer.
The 1987-88 PN-10 bass reflex sold for $500/pair.
The 1987-88 PN-15 bass reflex went out the door for $750/pair.
The PN-10 used a 0.75-in tweet, the 15 a one-inch tweet. Both used a 1.5-inch mid.
From the 1997 Orion Audio blue book.

I know this is a very old thread, but I just came across it when I was searching for info on the PN 15 model. I thought I would add some info that I found since there is little or no info on these seemingly rare speakers.

I saw a pair of PN 15 come up locally and by the photos, it looked to be a top quality speaker. Price was right, so I went to audition. Very good sound, solid deep bass. Real wood veneer too. BTW, the PN 15 is a 4- way model that adds a 'super tweeter' to the mix. Oddly, there is no badge, serial, or any form of identification on the speaker. If it weren't for the speaker grill emblem, you wouldn't know they were Pinnacles.

I emailed Pinnacle and they were nice enough to send me a scan of the original brochure. It appears the PN-10 and PN-15 were their TOTL models at the time. Possibly only made for 1 or 2 model years.

BTW, I bought them :)

Nice find!

I am always looking for a nice pair of PN6 - PN8+ series speakers. Also, wouldn't mind having a PN-50 for a center channel speaker.

I have a pair of AC650 I think. Black mini monitors with a 6.5 woof, and a .5 dome tweet. Funny rear port comes out at an angle. Very nice speakers. Excellent with classical music. They throw a very nice sound stage, deep and detailed. I am a fan. I would pick up a pair of anything they made, because they tend to be a lot of speaker for the money and I am sold on their qualities.

i had a pair- dead-ringers for paradigm titans . had the crooked port , vifa d19
tweeters. i didn't like them . sounded boxy and nasal in my setup( NAD amp, Denon cd)
might be better in another situation, but i'll never know.

Check out these babies, the rare elusive PN-15. Bought from the original owner, who kept them in immaculate condition. Just had to re-glued one of the woofers and fix a re-solder a wire in the x-over. I have to say, its a fine sounding speaker with full tight bass, clean mids and highs and a pretty open sound. When I took them apart, I found Polydax (Audax) mid-range and tweeters.

If I'm not mistaken, these are real mahogany veneer. Its gotta be one of the best looking wood finishes I've seen on an affordable speaker.

Wow those ARE nicely finished for pinnacles! I have two pairs of Pn-8+ (one a recent purchase from that popular online auction site) and the other a pair boat new in the early 90's. That pair has been modded with crossover "upgrades", wood veneer refinishing and dampening of the cabinet. I also have a pair of Pn-6 that were modified in similar manner. Pinnacle classic gold center rounds out the set (no mod's to the CG center very good sounding center as is!) These speakers (especially the modded ones have held up very well in comparisons to other speakers, most recent being POLK Lsi-15. Have always wanted to hear a pair of the Aerogel towers. Guess i will have to add the PN-15's to the list!!!! :music:

The port is odd looking though. I'm so used to the dia-duct style porting in the rest of the Pn series.

Sinistre,

Care to share your crossover modifications? I have a pair of PN8+ that I bought new in the late 80's. I am just now getting back into audio and have been wondering if there are any upgrades available for this speaker.
