Latest Find - Early Magnavox CD Player made in Belgium (photos)

dunhill

Dunhill is Where It's At!
Just found this today for $4.00 with the original transport locking screws still attached. Circa 1986 Magnavox FD2041 with dual TDA1540P DACs and the famous CDM-2 transport. Most importantly...it works, looks and sounds great!

I really dig the see-through tray door that allows the user to see the green light illuminating the CD as it's spinning.

it looks very similar to an early philips badged one i have here and this one surprisingly works really well after i unsiezed the tray motor it was literally covered in mud on the outside and not to pretty inside ...bullet proof engineering

Not only were they made by Philips, they were owned by them at the time. Magnavox = Philips; one and the same.

brings back memories that was the first CD player i had, and BOSTON Third stage was my first CD!!!

Well, if it ever breaks, do not toss it. I know pretty much everything about these, and they are easy to repair. Keep an eye on that big silver capacitor, though.
That one has been known to short out after 25 years. Piece of cake to replace it.

Sweet!!!

Love those Philips based Magnavox CD players.

Long life.

Great sound.

Style.

Vintage.

What else could one ask for . . .

Well . . .

Cheers

The FD has CDM2 which is slightly different to the CDM2/10 and CDM2/29 found in the CDB650. They are not compatible.

From a time something was actually 'made' in Belgium, now we don't have anything anymore ... not even Philips :(

I just came across one too at the local GW this past Friday. Mine has this cool looking program keyboard that pops open. I like the heatsink on the back

Mine is a CDB650
